I am delighted to have finally found a Rabbit forum! I’ve been a rabbit owner for years and have had little luck in finding what I need when it comes to other rabbit owners. I’m excited to be apart of the community!

My longterm bf and I have two bunnies, both rescues from the streets (very sad circumstances). Our newest rescue and older bun, Juneau (4 or 5 year old Californian), has adapted very well to her new and luxurious life in our home with one exception: it is very hard for her to get interested about chewing. Our younger bun Bronx (1 year old Otter Rex) is very out going and plays/chews with everything we put in front of him. We have a rotating menu of boxes, paper towel rolls, wooden blocks, etc. But it seems only certain boxes with no relation in texture, size, etc. can get Juneau excited. It’s been almost a year of trial and error and I’m starting to worry she won’t be wearing down her teeth enough. Has anyone had this problem or found something that has worked? Thank you in advance for any advice!

          Hi there, welcome!

Sometimes older buns don’t chew as much as young ones. Also, the main way they wear down their teeth, especially the molars, if by eating hay. So as long as she has a good appetite for hay, I wouldn’t worry about not being interested in chew toys. If her front teeth are aligned properly they also should be OK.

That said, it is very hard for buns to resist willow with foliage (either fresh or dried), so you could give that a shot. Fresh apple twigs are also always much more popular than old ones.
