Ok, I am freaking out a little. Calil, my american fuzzy lop, is doing something very strange. Today, I came home from break I found her behind pillows on the floor with these huge piles of fur, like 5 of them. First I thought she and Oren got into some sort of odd fight, which is odd because they never have before. Plus, Oren has the personality of a stoned hippie so I don’t think he would do anything to her. I checked her over didn’t see anything going on and she was not freaked out. Just now before I wrote this she was chilling on the floor and she started licking her forepaw pulling out his huge pile of hair. I ok course reacted sort of "woah what the heck". I think I scared her a little. I picked her up and looked her over, there isn’t any redness on her skin and she doesn’t seem pained by anything. Is this how the fuzzies molt?? Seriously, these clumps of fur are huge.

is she fixed? I’ve heard of bunnies doing this if they are pregnant.. they are making a type of nest for their babies. is there any way she could have gotten “knocked up”? maybe she’s going through a false pregnacy.

but if she is fixed.. then I’m not sure. I don’t know if females go through false pregnancies if they are spayed. I’ll try to do some research for you

Two of our three are going through a seriously big molt right now.  Curly Sue, who is a rex, has these giant holes in her fur, where the winter fur has fallen out and the spring fur is growing in.  You can pet her and take out scoops of loose fur with your hands.  When she lays down on any surface, she leaves behind a thin film of black fur.  I have no experience with long haired buns, but can you see any spots where the fur looks very different from the fur around it?  DJ is just your basic black bunny, no special fur, and he has two holes in his fur too, one on each shoulder.  Curly Sue’s started on her back and sort of migrated to her shoulders.

Can you tell if she is actually pulling the hair out or if it is just falling out?

I can’t seem to find anything good… maybe it is a molt. Fujoe is going through one now.. but I have to be the one to pull out the hair.. not him. And he doesn’t seem to leave piles around.

              I don’t know..

Nahh can’t can’t be knocked up. Oren is fixed so that is not possible. Maybe she is just making a little nest for herself? I looked her over top and bottom and i do not see any bald spots or patchness. Maybe it is just molting, it just hitting a warm spell here. Let me tell you when I saw her pull out this big wad of hair from her leg, the heartbelt did speed up a little. I am not sure of the nesting hair but yes I did see her groom groom pull on her leg. I don’t know either.

So is she spayed?  She could just be going through what Fujoe mentioned – a false pregancy.   Most bunnies usually pull the hair from their chest.  Is she only pulling it from her leg?
