I’m really bad at keeping my eye on all my local rescue pages that do rabbits.
Recently I offered to help out at a local no-kill shelter that mostly does cats and dogs. Turns out they are even more local now, having recently moved a few streets away from me! But they do occasionally get rabbits in – they are the shelter who had the blind rabbit I was asking about, but luckily for him, someone adopted him yesterday. I went to say hello anyway, and they introduced me to another rabbit, Chucky. He was quite scared of being picked up, but he actually settled into my arms quite happily once I supported him really well (it probably helped that I was wearing polar fleece!). He was then happy to snuggle up to my husband for a while. We both got angry grunts when we put him down though. We got snuggles for about 10 minutes while they took advantage and cleaned his cage.
The originally said he was a dwarf lop, but to me he doesn’t look pure lop. He reminds me in some ways of a netherland dwarf, and I wonder if he is a cross.
Either way, he will be coming home with us next week. We renamed him Greebo to go with our Terry Pratchett theme. We will be away for 1 week on our honeymoon, but as the shelter hasn’t had him neutered yet (that’s happening this week) it works out will that I can pick him up in 1 week.
After my long ramble, meet Greebo! This is the only photo I have so far, but I’ll share more when he is home!
