Care Fresh rules as a litter and the corner litter boxes are not as good as i thought!

I got a bag of carefresh the other day when the local pet shop was out of the 30 liter bags of litter I normally use.  I could only get a 5 liter bacg but thought i would give it a try, well it is great, rabbit smell is down, there is no soggy section in the litter box, in fact 3 days in and the litter tray is dry to touch, both rabbits are still using it!  Normally what happens when i let them out at night they dash to the outside litter tray to go pee as they refused to use the inside one as it will be 24 hours old. 3 days in and still using the inside one!

Add to that i cracked one of the corner trays that I have so put a cheap large normal shaped cat one in and they love it!  No litter being dug out and even better less mess and they seem to not be hitting the wall!

        I was wrong

Only issue is that carefresh cost me $15 for 5 liters compared to the other litter which is $19 for 30 liters but i do go through a TON of the stuff.  i found a website on line that I can get 30 liter delivered of Carefresh for $33 and i think it will end up being more cost effective as I use less on a daily base but still it is going to hurt my wallet!

          That’s excellent.

Actually, though it costs more, you may find you spend about the same because you go through it less frequently since it lasts longer, plus no clean up time wasted. They sell some pretty big bags, so shop around and stock up on sales. Most major pet stores carry Carefresh, so you may find discounts occasionally. Also, the Original, which is gray, costs a lot less than all of their colors.

Yeah working it out even if a 30 Liter bag last we twice as long as the normal stuff use then I am breaking even and I do use alot less on a daily base. The biggest issue is that not alot of places over here sell it. Going to ask my local pet shop if they can get the 30 liter bags in for me and if they can I will not have to pay $13 in postage for the bigger bags which will be nice.

I missed it, what kind of litter were you using before?

Being a first time bunny mom I had bought a corner tray that came with litter…well long story short, Hatter refuses to go in it. I had put newspaper down around it just in case he had an accident, but he absolutely refuses to use it. I am now going to go get a cat litter box and try the litter mentioned. Thanks for this!!

AV, part of the smell being down could be that they’re not missing the box now too. Ditto TARM, what were you using? I know you’ve trialled a few, but what was the main one you used?

jerseygirl i agree. However today when I changed to box this morning I put the last bit of “Breeders Choice” in the box and when I got home the smell was back so changed the box again, also both of them did the dash for the outside box to pee as soon as the cage was opened when they did not do that when the carefresh was in the box. So smell wish and rabbit happyness wise carefresh gets really really big ticks! Got an e-mail from the guy who supplies carefresh to this country and they said that $15 for the 5L was was over the price they recommend and wanted to know where I got it from as the RRP is closer to $9! he also is going to see if there is a shop near me that they can get the big big bags shipped to with the regular shipping just for me!

Oh yeah, breeders choice is the pellet paper kind right? Good on you for ringing around. may be well worth it. You may even be able to get it direct from the closest distributor.

mmm…maybe carefresh would solve my toileting woes with Jersey….I wish!  I did pick up some paper litter on sale last  week and certainn;y had a novelty value but it wears off.

Yeah it is the pellet paper kind. I e-mail the USA maker and then they got the distributors in australia to e-mail me and it went from there.

That is so nice that you have a distributor checking on the markup for you. And getting you a fair price for a local order.
Many pet shops will stock a product for someone if you ask the manager to get it in for you and you buy there regularly. It can be true for US pet shops also. Especially smaller ones that want your business, so guys, be sure to ask.

I believe Jersey is holding out for toilet training with magazines to read while in the bathroom. None of this animal litter stuff for her.

I found the carefresh to be better too.   Used to use aspen.    I am trying out the wood stove pellets and they seem to be doing the job really well.

Yes those corner litterboxes aren’t that great.  I am going to look for a cat box too.  I just hope I can get it in Ruby’s door as I got stuff on top her cage and hate to remove it and use the top door then put it all back 2x a week.   Yeah I know lazy.  Hey less work the better  can’t complain  tehee.

Cotton is doing ok with his corner one.   Though since I am putting that cream on his lip he has been going in his floor instead of the litterbox and  under Rubys cage.  GRRRR.  BOOOOO!

                                Guess he is mad ?

Love carefresh! My bun does too! lol She dug the other stuff out and made a mess everywhere when I tried a different kind. It seems to last quite a while longer than the old stuff too. Actually, what I usually do is fill it up (i use a catbox w/ half lid) and after a day or two of use, I just scoop out the poo and pee stuff and then add a little more fresh stuff to it. I change it once or twice a week depending.
