Ok. So, I have been toying with the idea of rescuing a little female lop that is in the school where I work. Now, I would be willing to keep her in a separate room, because Baileys has not been neutered yet. But, what are the chances of their getting along? I know that the girl-girl option is usually difficult, what about male-female, both neutered?

        Thanks!

I am not attaching a picture of Baileys this time, I am proud of myself for that =)

hey!  i love your pics   (i also post pics of my buns a whole lot so feel free to join in )

from what i have read any bonding is possible depending on your willingness & determination.  it seems reasons to give up on bonding attempts are if it seems to be really negatively affecting one or both of the buns.

right now i’m trying to bond my 2 girls and only one of them is spayed (the other is too old to be spayed now).  it’s not imperative that they bond as currently they have separate set-ups & quite a lovely life with separate free roam times.  but i might as well try right?  who knows?  i’m going to keep at it unless i start to see signifigant personality changes in either of them outside of bonding times.  as long as they are acting happy as usual i’ll keep trying.

i have also read that male-female bonds where both are altered seem to be the easiest bonds.  my vote is… go for it!

Thank you babybunsmum! I adore animals, and all of mine amazingly get along (I don’t know if you know I have a lot), people say I hava a knack for keeping harmony among them, but i know how much effort it requires and my husband is not thaaat patient. Also, I cannot have different free roam times, because i already have them for my dogs and Baileys, I wouldn’t have time for another one, so they will definitely have to be in the same bunny room and share the same bunny garden, that is why I am in doubt. Anyway, I am still thinking about it… and I secretly looooooove the idea!

Male-female is usually the easiest. However, we just had a case where someone was looking for another bun for her girl and it turned out that she didn’t like the boys. When we put a girl into the enclosure with her, she was still aggressive but not nearly as much. It really depends upon the buns. However, with having a male rabbit in the home first and introducing a female rabbit – that is about the best that you can get.

You will defintely want to wait until both are altered as it will drop the hormones and make things easier.  Just make sure that you don’t let them get close up to a month after Bailey’s operation. Male buns can store their stuff up to 30 days.
