Okay, so, for the last few days as the buns have been out in the xpen together, I’ve found that SOMEONE is missing the litter box when they pee. Sinc’e I don’t see it happen, I’m not sure who it is.

This doesn’t happen in the night pens. But I do notice that Pip has had some sticky-poo issues of late. Could she have something wrong with her plumbing or is she just being territorial again?

I checked her bottom this morning (she was MOST cooperative!) and there’s no sign of redness or swelling on her privates. No urine scald that I can see, although she is still missing a patch of fur between her left leg and her bum. The skin underneath that is also very clean and shows no sign of irritation.

She has ‘got her shed on’ this week…actually they both do.

What do you all suppose is going on here? Something I should worry about? Any way to put a stop to it?

          HI, MM,
Is it possible that the wee is taking the path of least resistance, ie. flowing where there isn’t fur and missing the mark by going a bit sideways? Is the leak next to the litter box or far away in the Xpen? Could she be getting wet paws, again without enough fur there, and tracking it or sitting down and making a little puddle? Just a thought. (ewe. a thought at breakfast…)

Sticky bottom can be a sign of a stomach upset or even a litterbox that needs to be cleaned so it is really hard to say what the cause is. But do see if it happens again, how often and what she ate. They aren’t cecal droppings are they?
As for the pee, some rabbits do this as a means of objecting. Mine do it if they feel that the litterbox wasn’t cleaned soon enough or when one rabbit refuses to let the other in the litterbox. Others will do it because a human has reached in there one too many times and are employing such a “wee” method to re-claim territory. I would suggest adding another litterbox to the x-pen and see if that doesn’t cure the problem.

yesterday, i let Mead and Max go in the same half of the xpens. it had been Meadow’s side overnight (remember, they switch sides every night) and the first thing Max did was hop in her litterbox and pee. it was LOUD pee. i could hear it from across the room, and there was A LOT of it. i think it was just him claiming the box. i would try and watch them for a bit and see how they are reacting when they’re first put together. it might be territorial, or it might be a health concern… does the pee look normal? like Scarlet said, i’ve also gotten that if the box was not cleaned soon enough…

lolz…I ‘hear’ you on the LOUD pee! *giggles* When Mimzy feels like letting me know he wants that box cleaned, (or more likely when I’ve jsut cleaned it), he goes in and lets go with Niagara Falls! xD I’ll just bet that’s it. Even though I do put two boxes in the xpen so each can have his own, my guess is, that’s still not enough for Pip.
I’ll try cleaning it more often too. They are both big sticklers for hygiene. ^_^
Pip does leave cecals when she’s had too many treats, but mostly they are the regular bb’s I find on the floor. I’m thinking those just get kicked out on the way to the tent…what do they call those…”flyballs?” xD
