        Hey all

This is my first post, so please forgive me if i’m posting in the wrong section!

I currently live in london, in a flat with my house bunny Milo. I love him dearly and couldn’t imagine ever having to give him up or making him suffer in any way.

I’ve been offered a job opportunity in the states, but i’m not sure what that’ll mean for milo as it’s quite a distance (10 hours) , by plane.

Has anyone made transatlantic flights with their rabbits before? Can they come in the cabin? Do they cope with the situation well?

I’ve googled this before, but the results really vary, and i’d like to put it out there to a community of rabbit loovers.

        Thanks!

Most animals that can be in a small carrier are allowed inside the cabin…but it really depends on the airline. You should check out the various airlines ‘s websites and check their rules.

I hate flying myself, so I can only imagine how a bunny must feel. But I suggest you talk to a vet about perhaps some sedatives?

Not the best answers, but I hope it might be of some help at least

            Hi & welcome!
I have no idea about the logistics of this! I can however point you to this thread from FAQ’s. Binky Bunny has posted in this thread some links that may give you more info. https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/5…fault.aspx

            Hope that helps.

Well most importantly you need to find out what the restrictions are for bringing your rabbit from the UK into the US. I’m trying to find information on this. You should search this as well.

Secondly, I don’t believe that on international flights animals are allowed in the cabin.

One of the links in the FAQ thread I mentioned above is this one:  homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/flytips.html  It does discuss international travel. I have just read something that may be a hitch for you though from that article.  See below.

                Note:
For current information on U.S. health requirements for pet rabbits entering the country, contact the office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) at the U.S. Embassy in the country where the rabbit is, and see the APHIS page “Traveling with Your Pets”.

Rabbits vaccinated against rabbit hemorrhagic disease or myxomatosis are not legally allowed to enter the United States.

This may not be current information so maybe the first thing to do is to contact this dept in U.S. embassy and see how things stand today.

I know for airlines at least, Continental airlines allows pets in cabin, if you make reservations for them and such. http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/conte…cabin.aspx Not sure about other airlines… I’ll look more into bringing a bun to the US

The US customs and border protection site says that there are no restrictions or requirements for bringing in a pet rabbit from out of the country… other than declaring it of course. So I’m pretty sure its just going to be an airline issue. So check the airlines well beforehand to see what they require

But that is for Continental only in the US not international. You will have to do some calling around.

Bringing an animal from the US to the UK requires a quarantine period-but not the other way around. BUT You must ensure this is still so. CHeck with the embassays on this. Make sure your flight allows pets and that you can bring the bunny in the cabin with you. A good trick I learned is get your dr. to write them up as a therapy animal-then you can bring them anywhere with you).

It’s fine for the bunny to make that journey in your lap. In the planes cargo is not fine. So ensure you can bring bunny on the plane with you.

I strongly believe there is no quarantine period coming to the US, as I know many who have immigrated this way and also many who import horses from europe (vice versa is not true -coming into the UK requires a quarantine) BUT you need to check this out.

Other then that-quarantine and plane ride-it looks peachy to me And congrats on the job offer! And welcome

Welcome to the U.S.! (if you end up coming here). I did find a site regarding pet travel and found a section specific to international travel. http://www.petfriendlytravel.com/intl_travel
I hope that also helps, and I’ll post if I find anything else that may be helpful.

To tell you the truth the thing I would be most worried about would be the popping ears, but thats just because popping ears bother me and because rabbits have such big ears…. sorry, it’s probably not something you should worry about but those are just my thoughts.
