Ooo, what a fun thread! This is Luck, my 25-year-old Thoroughbred. I massage horses and dogs for a living, so he’s been my “demo horse” many times.
This is Barhawk’s K.O. Dude “Kayo”, 21 year old reg’d Appaloosa gelding…I’ve had him almost 10 years.
And Morning Mist “Misty”, my almost 9 year old Paint/Shetland cross:
Thoes are some beautiful animals!
Some Day, I hope to live up in the Mountains. (Denver is right next to them, but it is not the same.) I will have plenty of land for horses, dogs, bunnies and all kinds of critters!
But for right now, Horses take up a little more room than rabbits.
Hey, do you think you can make “horseatats” out of wire cubes?
LOL!!
Wow, I am so jealous!! I have always been animal-crazy and that includes horses! But I have had little to no experience with horses. I am thinking about trying to get the courage to take riding lessons when the weather is nicer. I am afraid I will be the only adult. And I would love to learn to groom them, etc. I think it would be relaxing to groom a horse- well at least the parts that the horse likes.
I have seen lease ads in the paper and the price seems very reasonable. I live in a subdivision- so I could never have a horse at our house- and I never want to move again. Plus I am not so sure I really prefer to live in the country anyway- no to mention I could never do the shoveling involved in the care- I have a bulging disk in my neck- and when I have a bad day- it is a bad day!
I told my husband to become good friends with his co-workers that have horses- so I could pet them and learn how to take care of them- but he seems to think that is kinda “shady”. LOL

omg i want a horse! my lifes ambition is to have a small house in the country which has alot of land so i can adopt some abandoned rabbits and dogs and have alittle sanctuary going on! ahh dreams..
You all have beautiful animals!! When I was a kid, I had a pony. She had a colt that was born on the day I had my tonsils out. My mom named him Danny tonsilitis in honor of the day.
LOL cute!!
This is my horse, RiverBreeze Mystic Bay (aka. Winnie). She’s a 6 year old Morgan. I’ve had her since she was a baby and got to witness her birth.
Beautiful! I too am very envious!
I have 4 horses as of right now.. Sorry some of these pics are horrible because they are from my cell camera. Oh and sorry for the horde of pics!! I just love my horses!
This is my flaxen chesnut roan sabino gelding Rusty. He just turned 3. He is a Kentucky Mountain x Racking horse cross. He is absolutely a doll baby and is very good with kids. He is my lesson horse.
Run Walk
At A Run Walk
Yes he is 5 gaited! Got a lovely trot!
This is Goliath my black (horrible sun faded black might I add) 5 yr old Tennessee Walking horse gelding. He is registered and is being trained in heavy shod. (No not padded)
This is Cool Cedar Cody aka Cody my 16 yr old Quarter Horse gelding. Him and his buddy Gunnar are both boarded at my house. I unfortunatly am only zoned for 2 horses (which is rediculous IMO) so Goliath and Rusty have to be kept at my aunt’s house. Anyway Cody is my all round horse. I have competed with him in hunt seat, jumping, western pleasure, halter, showmanship and contesting.
Not bad for a camera phone pic. I was just showing off my new tack!
(Fair 2005)
(Me and Cody at Butler County Fair in 2005. I love this picture!)
And finally this is my horse Hytone’s Sho-Gun aka Gunnar. He is out of Hytone Beau which is a world champion stallion in TWHBEA and SSHBEA. Gunnar is really my mother’s horse but I show him in saddle seat and western events.
(My mother riding him in Urbana, OH.. NOT ME! lol.. And yes my mother and I share tack)
(He is 3x World Champion SSHBEA in halter as a yearling, 2 yo and 3 yo.. This is at a local show as you can see Cody is right next to him)
He is very special and is very good at getting his fly mask half way off his face..
Beautiful horses everyone!!
I love that pic of you and cody at the butler county fair!! Amazing and I love your tack!!
oooh the county fair pic is awesome!
you all have such lovely horsies i have only been on a horse 2 or 3 times in my life but my girlfriend used to event and she had horses. so i ended up learning about horses through her and helped her turn her horses out from time to time when visiting her farm. they’re amazing animals. aside from being a lttle intimidating because of their size, they really remind me a lot of rabbit behaviour actually. is that nuts to say? lol.
tcarroll I am totally ENVIOUS! Those are some gorgeous horses and the tack is very nice too! I wish I still had some horses, but alas no, I used to train quarterhorses in trail and Western Pleasure and I had a black horse Jet Captain Emily (yes she was related to the famous race horse) and she was black and it would fade so much in the sun. You brought back a lot of fond memories. That camera phone of yours takes some nice pictures, they aren’t that grainy at all and I look forward to MORE PICTURES!!!
Share all you like, I’m just soaking it up and getting my horse fix!
Kokaneeandkahlua- Which tack? The blue?? All of my tack is for sale. Actually two of my horses are for sale.. Cody and Rusty. I have to sell them because I only have time to work with Gunnar and Goliath as they are being shown at the world shows this fall.
Babybunsmom- Horses are a lot like bunnies. They have crazy personalities and their own likes and dislikes. When I first bought Cody he didn’t like peppermints. I guess he never liked them.. well until I stuffed one in his mouth. Ever since he is addicted to them haha.
Scarlet Rose- Was Jet Captain Emily out of Jet Deck? That is Cody’s Great Grandsire. This is Cody’s pedigree.
Well all of your tack is lovely but the blue is gorgeous!!! You’ll have no trouble selling it I’m sure!
tcarroll yes Emily sure was (that’s what I was told anyway) not sure if she had a pedigree chart though! Small world and I saw Impressive on there too, I had a couple I trained from that line, they were a dream to work with. Emily had a short stature though but I started her on jumps and she would just fly over them. She was very honery too, she didn’t like men (I think before I got her she was abused by them) if she saw one she did not like (which was just about all of them) she would literally chase them down and stomp on their foot whether she was in a stall or out in the pasture. I laughed, the guys cussed..LOL She was quite a character and LOVED to have the hose stuck in her mouth when it was on and drink from it, if you didn’t give it to her she would rip it from your grasp to get a drink of fresh, cool water. Smart horse.
Babybunsmum - that’s just a small speck of “crazy personality”
Awww! I was looking for a different thread, but came across this one =) I’m so jealous of you all with hroses! =( It’s been just over 3 years since I’ve been on the back of a horse and I miss it so much =( Before that, I’d been riding since I was 4. My first horse was Sea Star. She’s a Chincoteague pony and I went down and got her from the Chincoteague Island semi-annual acution of the wild horses that live on Assateague Island (off the coast of Virginia). I tamed her (I mean, they ARE wild horses – the volunteer firemen round them up and auction some of the babies to keep the herd size under control). And I raised her from a baby and trained her myself. She’s the sweetest, most well behaved pony ever (14 hands high, so she’s almost horse size). Anyway, before going to college, I knew I was going to be too busy to give her the attention she deserves, so I donated her to a therapeutic riding program to help handicapped and disabled children to learn to ride. They love her there and she’s doing well. I visited her earlier this spring, and this is one of the pictures I took. I can’t wait until I can buy a big ranch with lots of land so I can have horses again!
I love seeing all of your horse pics! I rode jumpers for about 10 years growing up, and even did a year of polo in college (my hand-eye coordination sucks, but I’d love to try it again some time!). Just recently I convinced fiance that I need to take lessons again. I really wasn’t sure about spending so much money every month, but he said I should go for it 🙂 So far I’ve had two lessons at a local barn riding jumpers and I love it (despite falling off in my second lesson). I can’t wait until I can have my own horse (or lease one) some day! Around here it’s at least $1000 a month to board a horse, so I think we’ll have to move somewhere cheaper before that can happen.
Keep posting pics everyone!
ooo I’d love to try polo sometime! I played field hockey for 7 years through middle school and high school and I played for a bit on a club team in college, and even though I don’t know too much about polo, it seems pretty similar to field hockey…
ouch $1000 seems pretty steep.. maybe you can try leasing one? It’s ALMOST like having your own =) Good luck with the lessons!
oh and btw, i left this out of my earlier post, but all of you who have posted pictures of your horses, I think they’re gorgeous!

Polo is amazing! It’s pretty similar to field hockey, especially the outdoor polo. Indoor polo is more similar to ice hockey because there’s quite a bit of checking. It’s awesome! It’s pretty hard to hit that ball from so high up though … I’ve never been one for hand eye coordination, but I still had a blast. There’s a place semi-near me (1 hr 20 min) that allows you to pay a fee to play indoors and they’ll even supply horses and lessons. I’m hoping to get a job over that way in a year or two, so I’d love to look that place up again when I move closer. For now I’ll stick with my jumpers, but at least the barn is located on a polo farm (my trainer leases the barn for his horses) so I get to see some super expensive polo ponies from time to time. It’s a shame it’s not easier to find places to do polo … it has a reputation of being super stuck up only because you need so much money to be able to afford that many horses (each person has probably 4-6). If barns offered lessons and let you ride their horses, it would be as affordable as any other horse sport for the average person.
And yeah, $1000 for monthly board is ridiculous. It’s like renting another apartment! Leasing a horse is just as expensive, at least if you do a full lease. I’m hoping to ride at one place for a few years and then maybe do a 1/4 lease or something where I can ride the horse maybe twice a week or something. Even that would be over $200 and with lessons currently running $200 a month, it adds up fast! Horses are an expensive pasttime out here. If I lived somewhere with $250 a month board, I would have a horse in a second.
