So i was snuggling with Onyx, decided to check his behind and make sure nothings going on. Well, i realized he had tons of loose hair back there. I was worried because he didn’t go through a molt like our other bunnies do, and he didn’t have a lot of loose hair like our other bunnies do. I was sort of relieved when he had TONS of it back there.

I barely pulled on it, I’m talking i just put a tiny bit of pressure and the hair came right off. I was looking at the pile and noticed weird flakey bits, and really light colored hair pieces. Onyx is solid black. It was grossing me out, and really worrying me.

He has had issues with his back-end ever since i got him, and I’m currently saving up to get him shaved (he has multiple gross mats on his lower belly/groin area, and really damaged hair. I don’t trust myself to do it.) and to get him professionally cleaned at the vets office. (Hopefully next month! Fingers crossed!)

I was wondering what it was and pulled his tail back to see behind it, and noticed it was on his skin. It was a weird build up, I’m just wondering what it could be? When i knew nothing about bunnies, everyone told me to use baby shampoo to help clean him up. I never put it directly on his skin, it was always just a drop in warm water. But could it be build up from that?

In the pictures, underneath his tail, there’s a black splotch. That is new fur coming in. A week or two ago, i pulled a few pieces of loose fur out but couldn’t get anymore out because he was squirming. So you can tell what his natural fur looks like and how gross his behind fur is because of probably years of not being cleaned.

Anyway! Sorry for the long post, i know its like every day there’s a new issue with him. Maybe i make a big deal out of nothing, but im a worrier lol.

          Hi!
So I can’t tell what part of his bottom you took pictures of but I know my New Zealand loves to lay in her pee and then the hair around her but will fall out if I pull on it a tiny bit so I usually run her but under water. Does the buildup smell like anything?

His butt/lower back always smells like hay and faintly of old pee. Lol

The pictures are right behind his tail, I gently held it back / over his anus area to see where all the fur was coming from and to see his skin back there.

Looks like heavy molting and the fur regrowing.
