So i woke up this morning, and took a look in Thumpers cage, where he sleeps, and im not completely got him using the litter box, (im kinda glad i dont because of what ii found today) He had a couple of places where he peed at, his pee was a redish color. I took him to the vet and they said it was normal. Then i took him to another vet to  pick of some meds called critical care  that the first vet didnt have. Soo that  vet said it wasnt normal.

Does anyone eles know anything about this? Im worried.

Without analysis of the urine no vet would be able to tell you for sure what it is. Red urine is frequently seen in rabbits, and is within the normal range of color of urine; rabbits excrete plant pigments that can dye their pee orange or reddish. If you were to see a blackish olor, you’d have to be concerned, then it may be blood. The other thing, critical care is used to feed rabbits who are off their feed due to GI trouble or if they had surgery recently, etc. It isn’t a medication to treat urine issues.

The first time I saw Coco’s Red/Orange urine I thought “ACK! I’ve done something to her and given her internal bleeding!”

Now I just know that she gets these phases where her urine – in particular HERS, not Jackson’s – is Very red/orange. Sometimes I know she has been eating a strawberry or something else which I suspect may color her urine. Sometimes I just suspect I have annoyed her in some way over the past day and this is how she is letting me know. Like Petzy – AS long as she isn’t straining, or seeming to be in pain, I think it is a normal rabbit urine color. Next time Her royal Majesty pees on the floor after I have irritated her, I will have to remember to take a picture!

You may have to give it with a feeding syringe. Putting small amounts in the side of his mouth. What flavour is the critical care? I’m surprised your vet said to continue with the cat milk. Was this the vet that also said the red pee wasn’t normal? I’m not entirely sure how well they know rabbits – perhaps the 1st vet is better. It is normal to see reddish orange pee in rabbits. (Usually from the greens in their diet) In a very young rabbit I’m not as sure but urine does turn a darker colour when it’s been exposed to the air for a while.

Is Thumper producing any poos? Is he still eating the hay?

Monkey always has reddish colored pee, and its from her diet, not because she is sick. Which she isn’t.

It’s possible that there could be something wrong, but more than likely it’s normal. Reddish-orange pee happens all the time.

One trick you can try is put some hydrogen peroxide on the urine — if it bubbles up like crazy, it could mean there is blood there. I discovered this accidentally with Jack’s urine (when I was cleaning), and tests revealed he did have blood in his urine (he had a bladder stone), and then at Enhanced Rabbit Health Seminar I  recently attended,  they suggested this technique as well.

Most likely the red is a pigment change due to something else,  not blood, but like Petzy said, only a vet would know for sure. Did any of the vets try to express the bladder first? This has worked with most of my bunnies in the past, though Jack is difficult —Sometimes at the vet the bunny’s bladder is empty or the bunny refuses to release. (Jack is a resistant one!)

Here is a good article to read from the HRS about red urine: http://www.rabbit.org/journal/3-1/red-urine.html

BB that’s a wonderful idea. I’d never thought of that. I’d almost resorted to buying test strips when I was suspicious of Little-Bit’s pee. :p

Thanks guys for all the help, i took thumper to the vet today, they tested for blood and said they wasnt none. So thats a good thing.
Soemthing i found a little odd was right before we left he peed a litte like right besides his litter box (the pee looked normal), so i took him to the vet we was there for about 2 and half hours, when i came home the pee was a horrible red color, So im thinking that it could just be where it sits over night.. Could this be it?
But theres not any blood thanks god.
btw i finally got around to putting up a few pictures

Bunny pee does seem to change color after its been exposed to the air. Sometimes Monkey’s will look yellowish, then when i look again an hour later its orange or reddish, the oxygen changes the color in it
