My rabbit Fang has exhibited an odd behavior twice now and I’m desperate for any answer I can find. Both times this behavior has been caused by panic, it looks like half his body is paralyzed while the other continues to move. Both times he has recovered quickly, last time I took him to the vet and they said he was just panicked, but this time (it has been two days) he keeps tripping and I’ve noticed him being more cautious than usual. He is still eating, drinking, using the bathroom, and appears active but I am still extremely worried. All exotic vets nearby are booked out for weeks so I really need help. Thank you!

I would call-in to the vets again and let them know the updated situation — this sounds serious, so hearing of these updates may make them more likely to squeeze you in as an emergency instead of waiting.

If he exhibits half-body paralysis/paresis (hemiparesis), he couldve had a proper vascular stroke. Treatment would be supportive care. Vascular strokes are typically under-diagnosed in rabbits.

Another common cause for hemiparesis is e cuniculi. E cuniculi (EC for short) is caused by an intracellular parasite. The rabbit often catches this parasite from its mum, while still in the womb.

            How old is Fang?
