Obsessive humping and poop bomb

It just occured to me how disturbing that subject title would seem on any other forum . . . .

Anyways, I’ve been having some problems with my teenage male bun. He’s been obsessively humping and pulling out the hair of his spayed femal companion for weeks now. I found some scabs on her back a few days ago and finnaly seperated them. Since then, I’ve noticed that Kisa (the female’s) side of the pen is perfectly clean, without a stray poop in sight, but Yuki’s (male) is covered with it! Yesterday, my appointment to get him nuetred finnaly came, so he just had his surgery. I’m assuming other people have had these problems, so what I’m asking is, how long did it take your male to settle down? The vet said to keep the buns seperated for at least 3 more weeks. Is that how long it took your bun’s hormones to die down? How long do you think it will take before his litter habits improve?

It takes at least a month, sometimes more for hormones to die down. Give him time

Thank you! I’m willing to put up with Yuki’s behavior, but it makes me less frustrated to have an idea how long it will go on.

Yep – just about a month.

Is the female already spayed? I ask because if she is you may start to give them visiting times a bit earlier, as there would be no risk of pregnancy – if they are already bonded. Also, some of the poop may be territorial in nature, depending on how long these two have been together/bonded.

The bonding poop wars felt like Forever, but eventually died down too.
I also found that Jacksons urine stopped being so musky/skunky smelling a couple of weeks post neuter.

I would wait two full weeks before introducing them again so he can calm down a bit and his incision can heal. Depending on how they do together, you might be able to start rebonding at that time, or you might want to wait the full 1-2 months. All rabbits are very individual on how they react after the neuter.

Ah, thanks. This is very helpful. Yes, Kisa is spayed. I actually thought they were both girls when I got her, so I had to have an emergency spay the day after they met XD. They had been bonded for a couple of months with no problems until Yuki lost his hormonal little mind a few weeks ago. In fact, Kisa seemed very upset when Yuki was gone for his nueter and tried to eat the plastic lining in her pen. It gave me quite a scare ’cause for a minute I thought she’d ingested some and was going to die/cost me thousands in vet bills. But they’re right next to each other now and seem quite content .
