Hello I have a 4 1/2  month bunny mom who is nursing.  I am giving her unlimited pellets but I am not sure how much and what kind of fresh veggies to give her.  I only see what is on the site for adult bunnies.  I do not see anything for young bunnies/nursing bunnies.

I would give her unlimited pellets while she is nursing. The same veggies for adult rabbits are fine for your rabbit.

Thank you.   The pergnacy was a suprise.  I purchased her form a local pet store and she was pergnant.  Didn’t know she was till this past Monday when she had them.

Do you know why yogurt drops and the other treats that are sold at the stores are not good for them

Those treats are usually high in sugar or have seeds or other things that are not good for rabbits.

The best treats to stick with are fruits and carrots or fresh herbs in small quantities.

Yeah, they jack the petstore treats up with stuff that isn’t good for them but they love to eat. It’s like giving a kid a diet of cake and ice cream. They’ll gobble it up as fast as they can (meaning more cash) but it doesn’t mean it’s good for them.

That, and also, you know how yogurt is good for us, because it has probiotics in it? They use the same yogurt to make the drops for bunnies, so it could potentially disturb their stomachs, as they have different gut bacteria then we do…

K & K although the friendly bacteria is not the same in a bunny GI tract as in humans, for some reason those same bacteria seem to help rabbits. I was trying to find an article on it but I’m going to have to dig around more.

Regarding greens for mom, I was told not to give her any parsley or cilantro, as this can somehow effect the milk production.  I fed my little mom lettuces, carrot tops and radish tops.

i think a very few is ok, my bunny loves these little beetroot things which i have checked are quite low in fat and high in fibre but still i wouldnt give him loads as it is still quite high fat but one perhaps once a fortnight or so on wont do any harm, if he enjoys it then i dont mind it is also quite hard so good for the teeth but other than that i wouldnt give them more often than that

back to the bunny tummy bacteria… basically there’s a delicate balance of both good and band kinds in the bunny’s tummy.

this article talks more about bunny digestions and the bacteria: http://www.carrotcafe.com/n/digestion.html
