We have had our free roaming lop for about two years now.  He has been nuetered for ages now.  And besides the occassional slip up (I think when he’s pissed off) he hasn’t really marked the furniture much.

He’s always jumped on the furniture, but for some reason, never our bed.  The guest beds he’ll jump on, but not the one we sleep in.  But now, for about a month, just randomly, he has decided that he wants to jump on the bed.  Which is fine, I don’t have a problem with him being there, but now he’s started peeing on the bed!  I don’t get what the sudden urge is.  And I can’t get it to stop.  We lock him out the best as possible, but it’s not full proof.

Has anyone had any problems with fixed rabbits marking their territory?  I don’t know what the solution is.

        HALP!

It is likely not a territorial marking, but his instinctive reaction to feeling the soft surface of the bed. You have to block his access to it.

That sort of makes sense, I guess. The few times he has gone on the couch was when there was a pile of blankets bundled up.

            Why do they do that?

I suppose because soft surfaces also tend to be absorbing.

My rabbit peed on my sister’s bed all the time. Her bed was so soft! And if he ever has a blanket with him, he’ll pee, too. It has to be the softness of it. I have always wanted to get him a nice bunny bed, but I know he’ll just pee all over it. Blocking access is really the only way to stop it.

My buck randomly does this on my couch. Not on the bed or chairs – just the couch. It’s weird how they’ll just take it into their heads. This room has a litterbox but now and then it’s like he decides he must mark the couch. It’s only ever at night and when we’re home. My girl never peed on the couch but will now since he has. I make sure it’s covered at night so they don’t soil it.
