Okay, technically it’s still an hour until November here, but I think it’s past that time for most of you!

Today I started building a new condo for Pippin and Fíli to move into. I could have just used the old one, which has sat empty during the last 7 months of bonding, but I wanted to go a bit bigger since I have the space, and I wanted to get a new floor since the last one is pretty gross by now (it’s just coroplast). Spent a couple hours on it, and I still only have the outside done! Have to go to Home Depot tomorrow to pick up some more items so I can get the top level in and make some ramps. And get a new sheet of coroplast for the flooring. Lots to do! Tonight they’ll just stay in the x-pen. (I could probably just leave them out–they stay out all day even when I’m not home, but I just feel better putting them away at night. Fíli especially can be quite mischievous!)

Daylight savings tonight. It’s already been getting dark so early, now it’s just going to be depressing. Dark at 5, wah. I know, I shouldn’t complain, at least it is still nice out during the short days (84 today, though we’re back down to the 70s next week). I just hate it when it gets dark so early, it messes with my head and makes me feel like I’m spending my entire life at work.

I’m going away tomorrow for 4 days to London UK, and I’m so excited and nervous too, my mum is coming her to bun-and-dog-sit so the buns will be great. I could never leave the buns with so else, although my brother offered to bunsit Yohio which still makes me laugh when I think about it (I have a very, very sweet brother, but imagining him bunsitting Yohio in his house is just hilarious.)

Two years in a row i’ve had to work daylight savings. Not only was it dark when I drove into work at 6:30PM.. but I get the joy of working an extra hour and having a 75 minute break from having a working computer. Woohoo..

Bam, have a FAB time in London (“UK”! lol, just in case there was a doubt!).

You’re there at the right time to see all the RED POPPIES everywhere, on peoples clothes, on the black cabs and on the buses to honour our service men, specifically in WW1 & WW2. (a symbol of the poppies in the fields of northern France where so many soldiers fell)
Shame you’re not there for a couple of days more, I’m there next Saturday. Never mind, next time maybe.
It’s due to stay dry until Wednesday, so you should have the BEST time !!

We’re going to London because it’s my birthday, so the trip is a surprise gift =)

Tessie, do you know of any bunny-related places, shops or so in London? (For some reason I always think of the UK as the ultimate country for bunnies and bunny-lovers).

I’d never heard of the red poppies, it sounds beautiful and so sad, all those lives lost to war.

I never go anywhere since I got the bunbuns. I’ve made a First Aid Box and put written instructions on the fridge =D And my mother has helped me nurse Bam through a bad bout of gas once, so she knows what to do and there’s the vet clinic and the Animal Hospital has 24/7 ER service and she has a car so I only worry like a tiny bit. I’m rambling now, hehe.

So, for the first time, I had someone get weird with me over my in-person thesis surveys. I asked him if he would like to help me with my thesis. He seemed really friendly and said sure. I explained it was just a quick survey of circling numbers on a scale. I handed him the clipboard and he filled it out. Everything seemed normal until I went to retrieve it. That’s when things got weird. He gave me this very stern look and said I should have read him the consent notice (which was attached to the clipboard, but under the survey). I looked at him with a puzzled look because nobody really cares about the consent notice. It’s there if people want to read it, but all it says is “there are no risks”, “there are no benefits to participating”, “filling out the survey=you are agreeing to participate”, and “you have the right to ask questions”. Really basic stuff that I guess I have become accustomed to people just “knowing”. I wasn’t sure how to respond to the guy, so I just said “that is just to show I went through IRB”. He very snidely replied “I know what it is and it says I have agreed to participate by filling out the survey”. Here I am thinking, um… duh. Isn’t that obvious? I don’t think someone needs to explain that to you. Then he asked if he could keep the informed consent notice and I said sure. After all, participants have that right (although most people don’t care). So yeah…. there will probably be some complaint about me to the IRB office. o_O

Okay… done ranting now. LOL

So I went on a field trip, visiting some wind turbine things. (The things that spin and generate power) When we were standing under them it gave me the worst ear ache ever, my whole face hurt. That was on top of MapQuest being wrong (I told my mother to use googemaps) so we got very lost and ended up being and hour late. Also there was a section in the road where there were several dead cats that had been hit by a car. It was terribly sad.

ANYWHO, need some love life advice. How should I go about *Casually* and un-awkwardly let a guy know I like him, but not TOO obvious. Since I met him a year or two ago we have always teased each (Not meanly, playing around) other. We aren’t really close but he’s a nice guy and I’m too much of a wimp to ask for his number, lol!

Moxie, my advice is that, as hard as it can be, to just go for the obvious! You can drive yourself crazy otherwise. Best to just be upfront in my experience. You can do it!

I had to take my bf to the airport sooo early this morning. Had time to go to the gas station, grocery store, go to breakfast, and Home Depot and still be at work 20 min earlier than usual. But at least I got the stuff I needed! And after work I picked up the coroplast. Worked on the condo today, think it is coming together but I am too tired to finish it now. I decided I need to change where the door is and I’m not sure that the top level has enough support, but hopefully I can finish tomorrow! I also still haven’t made a decision on flooring. Anyone have recommendations for what to put over coroplast?

It’s tricky, not wanting to embarrass yourself, but the trouble is, you’re basically saying ‘how can I make it clear without making it clear?’ haha! 

Other than stating the obvious (that you might just have to face any potential embarrassment) I will offer this advice: men are not subtle like we are. What you think is abundantly clear they might not even notice. So you can probably afford to be a bit more forward than feels natural

Don’t pay for expensive tour buses, just jump on a normal one (and pay (!) unless you’ve got a one day travel card) -a double decker of course! – from Victoria or wherever you are and sit up top !!! LOL

Moxie – absolutely in agreement with Nora and Tessie, be upfront : ‘Hey **guy** , do you feel like going for a drink / bowling / cinema some time…?..’.
If you’re teasing each other (read flirting!! lol) , it’s probably one of two things, either he likes you too, or he sees you as a mate.
Or maybe arrange a double date if you’re nervous of being just the two of you….?
Go on, you can do it ! What’s the worst that happen…? He could say no….. but he might say yes !!

Just been to the vets this morning with my elderly dog Kyra – I thought it was going to be the last visit. It wasn’t. This time.
For a not usually very emotional perosn, I was in pièces. I held it together until I saw the vet and I cracked !

We’ve come home with meds to see if that clears up the night-time incontinence. I can’t put her to sleep if I haven’t tried, even though it won’t cure her
She’s bright in herself, eating and wags her tail when she sees me (through her cataracts!) so it just didn’t feel time.

So I’m back home now with my canine ‘other half’ and she’s like : “Hey Mum, what’s all the fuss about ? But hey thanks, I’ll accept the steak and chicken and these 5 star courses you’re giving me !!!”

They steal our hearts these animals, they fill them up to overflowing and then they break them into a million pièces. I feel exhausted.

Vienna Blue in France, so glad things worked out well this time – I’m glad you’re home with your girl!

I’ve been battling some pet exhaustion lately as well. I love Sukka, our megacolon bunny, but at the same time I’m so tired of all the extra worry and care she brings along with her. Introducing her to Tossu, our other rabbit, has been on hold indefinitely since she started showing symptoms, and I have twice the cages to clean out as a result. Due to her tummy trouble, she’s also much messier than a rabbit usually is, so there’s even more extra cleaning involved. I used to take 20min twice a week to clean out Tossu’s cage… now, it takes me about 2h twice a week to clean out both of them. Her extra cage is also taking up a ton of space in our apartment that we really don’t have room to give, and because the bunnies aren’t bonded yet we’re forced to let them out at different times… meaning both of them get less free roam time.

In addition, I’m constantly worried and on the look-out. I check her tummy for gas maybe fifty times a day, need to give her belly rubs and force her to move to get her gassy tummy under control all the time, we’re constantly worrying about what she’s eating and what she’s not and what her ideal diet should be. There’s a lot more worry than fun in our daily life with her. As a result, Tossu gets less attention as well, because he’s happy and healthy and fine. Sigh.

Sukka is a wonderful rabbit, the sweetest bunny I’ve ever met, and it’s obviously not her fault she’s ill, but I find myself wishing so hard that she’d just be healthy… or, even worse, that we’d gotten a healthy rabbit instead of her. And then I feel so guilty. I’m exhausted. We’re hoping that, in the future, we can find her a good diet that will keep her symptoms at bay… and that we could finally bond the bunnies and move them together. That would help a lot.

VB they do, they really do. They give us unconditional love and then when they leave it leaves a huge gaping hole in our hearts until enough time passes and we see the life full of love had by both and peace settles in.

You will know when the right time is. Glad it went well at the visit !

RBB I can’t really relate to the constant stress as I’ve been fortunate enough to not experience any issues with mine ( knocking on wood as I type or particle board, cheap end table..) She is very lucky to have a caretaker such as yourself and I hope one day you do find harmony in your household

Moxie..I did get into the picture thread last night and got my Willow fix ! Sadly today it is back to the error, lol..

Could you try hanging out with said boy without the awkward ” I like you ” situation. Find a common interest and invite him ? Like LBJ mentioned see where it goes from there.

Well, dinner went down with licking lips and waggy tail (and that was just me !!! LOL !!) .
What fickle emotional creatures WE are. Last night I cried myself to sleep with the thought of “the” decision this morning and now I’m whistling and singing.
I’m enjoying it while it lasts as I know “the day” will come again!
I’m crossing my fingers for a dry night in dog bed tonight. Does PPA react that fast ? (she’s has 3 squirts of it already today….).

RBB, so sorry to hear about Sukka, yes it puts everything into perspective doesn’t it, and that’s not even comparing to medically caring after a human being, which I can’t start to imagine about the level of exhaustion !!
I’m not knowledgable about the condition she has, I hope you find a suitable diet. Why can you not put them together with this condition, could it be dangerous for her?

VB, I couldn’t even begin to imagine what caring for an ill human would be like – based on my bunny experience, I’d rather never find out! It would be awful.

We technically could put them together, I’m sure it wouldn’t be too dangerous – it’s just so much easier to monitor her poops when she’s alone and Tossu isn’t in the same cage messing up my “samples”. And we haven’t wanted to stress her out with bonding, seeing as she’s already ill.

The level of exhaustion for caring for another person is huge, my fiancee and i have been doing it for the past couple of years. Although prolly nothing like caring for a bunny who is sick ( thankfully, haven’t had to deal with a sick bun yet -knocks on my desk-)

Hey guys! I’m stuck with a napping baby in my lap so decided to peruse the site! Sampson hasn’t been sleeping very well lately and he finally let me take a peek in his mouth. Well, he had a third tooth. Yay! Gave him some medicine before bed to help ease his discomfort and this morning woke up to him with tooth number 4! Wow! And well, he’s got 2 more cutting through right now! He is cutting 4 teeth at once. More poor 6.5 month old has been busy. And aboit to have 6 teeth! And letting me know about it all night the last few nights, calling me to come comfort him about 5 or 6 times a night. so since he’s a bit over tired from not sleeping well I refuse to stir him now that he finally zonked out lol!

OMG! Both buns were insanely hyper this morning. I have no clue what had gotten into them. They were both tearing around the room in circles, digging at things, running over to me and pulling on my pants legs.

LBJ— Yup. It’s a “large” rabbit cage and then I pretty much attatched an X-Pen made out of NIC cubes to it. It gives her plenty of space to run around when I’m not in there. I was always scared that my bedroom door wouldn’t latch and she would get out or one of the dogs would get in when I wasn’t home, so it’s safer this way.

Lbj lol there’s no “not normal” in the baby world. But he’s certainly an early tooth bloomer I guess you can say lol! His cousin has 6 teeth and she’s 15 months old. There’s both sides of the spectrum and it’s all just… normal haha but it’s tough! Poor guy doesn’t understand what’s going on.

So I got Bam a new condo today! He really loves it! It took me awhile to find what I had in mind! I have been really thinking about getting him an companion. I’m just not sure yet. I don’t know why I’m so hesitant. Probably because I’m unsure who’d watch them for me when I go on vacation. I already have everything perfect. Sitter for Abbie, sitter for Bam… I wonder how much that will change if I added a second bunny. Would suck to make it more difficult to find a bunny sitter because of a second bunny. It’s weird how this is what’s stopping me? I guess because we travel enough that it’s kind of a big decushion factor. She was the one who watched Sally and Harley for me… so surely she wouldn’t mind Bam and one companion. But still lol

Oh my LBJ, ours decided that the sofa arm that now permanently have pillows over that side would be a tasty snack. So, now unless there is someone in the room with them, they are locked up (don’t worry they get plenty of out time), its just when my fiancee and I are out of the house and not going to be in the room and block that arm from being a snack. Luckily, they weren’t eating the stuffing just taking it to the litterbox and then weeing on it… Of course, we blamed the wrong bun, got bunny butt for a day until we apologized and scolded the right bunny for the act, once we figured it out of course. Although Laurana was playing the lookout and Tanis was the culprit for it!

Brevin has to go to a kennel. We tried letting friends watch him but he becomes a completely different dog and is just… terrible. Completely terrible. So he has to be in a kennel unfortunately. So expensive, ugh! He just such a “bad dog” from his seperation anxiety so we don’t find it worth it to put anyone through that again. He practically had to stay in his crate the entire time which is smaller than if he had just gone to the kennel. He can’t have nice things lol we try, and he spoils it somehow. Just like when he’s at the kennel he can’t even have a bed. They have to remove it because he will destroy it and eat it and they don’t want to be responsible for anything.

Aww, poor Brevin. Our dog had horrible separation anxiety when she was younger. Even today she has separation anxiety, but she’s too old to get into any real trouble anymore. For years we had to make sure all of the trash cans were inaccessible to her because she would get into them and eat tissues and stuff.

Hi guys. Well after my false joy of dry night and thoughts that this would be the start of a bit longer together, Kyra the dog passed peacefully (if not quickly, the vet gave the equivalent of a horse’s dosage!,,) this morning. It has been a very long day (afterwards i travelled from France to London) and i can’t imagine the emptiness when i return home tomorrow and there is not a waggy tail to greet me. (Ok so a miaow and bunny bump will be nice but it’s not the same….).
I absolutely knew that it was the right time, so that makes it slightly easier now.
I’m lucky in life, at 42 she is my first real loss, and wow the emptiness hurts!

All of you reading this now, stop, and go give your furry friends a hug from me. They deserve it.

I’m so allergic to timothy hay now it’s not even funny. Over 2 years having rabbits and it only just started. When I’m done with this hay I’m going to try orchard. Hopefully that will treat me better.

I’m so sorry for your loss! It’s crazy to think how fast things can go. To think they’re here today, but potentially gone tomorrow really makes me want to cuddle my critters..

Vienna Blue I’m so sorry for your loss. I gave goose some extra head rubs today.

I ended up having to go to the ER this morning. Thought I was passing another kidney stone. Apparently I pulled a muscle :/. I felt really bad for goose. Someone is usually here at night or during the day to give him free run of the house. I had been gone for nearly 20 hours (completely unplanned) and my hubby is out of town. It was terrible. When I got home he was waiting by the cage door and ramming it with his food dish. probably plotting an escape. Unfortunately because of all the the medication they gave me for the pulled muscle after I ate I had to put him back in the cage because I couldn’t watch him. Then I felt bad and let him out and he ran around while I tried to stay awake. I was in a pretty deep sleep when a bunny nose came up and touched my hand. I know he wants attention and I”m trying so hard. Poor guy.

NBO… I have the same problem with the hay. And back before I knew any better we used cedar shavings but switched to paper because I am allergic…

LBJ- I’ve had so many kidney stones.. I usually wait until I can’t possibly bear it anymore and go to the hospital.. but with the hubby out of town I couldn’t really wait until the last moment :/ The muscle is still pretty sore today so I do feel like it was worth it.

Vienna, I’m so sorry about your dog. It’s terrible to lose your dog. I’m glad you knew it was time so you never have to think about whether you did the right thing or not. I’m glad you got so many years together. Dogs are a blessing to us humans and it feels so unfair that they can’t have longer lives.
There were poppies everywhere in London, more and more as the days went, so many people wore them. Westminster Abbey was surrounded by them and there were little crosses where people could find their lost loved ones’ regiments and write their names, or at least that’s how I interpreted it. It was very moving and beautiful.

Then I came home to peppercorn poop (Yohio), the next day poopy butt (Bam), and today symptoms of vaginitis in my dog =( The buns seem ok now, but I have to call the vet clinic about Ephi tomorrow.

Bam—(((Vibes))) for Ephi. I hurt my shoulder (embarrassingly) playing Just Dance 2014 on our Wii. It wasn’t too bad until I then had to babysit for 7 hours. Which means holding a 11 month old baby, carrying her carseat, pushing her in a stroller ect. while taking care of an energetic boy. But it’s better now.

So I’m back to a quiet home.

I have tiles everywhere and her click click click of nails on the floor was a like a clock ticking, peacefully, rhythmically in the background.

 I’m OK as long as you don’t come up looking sad and say “areeee you okayyyyyy?”…. then I crack !!

So here are some piccies…. she was a labrador / lurcher cross which I always said made her look like an undernourished Golden Retriever teenager!

She was an obedient dog, so “Sit! Stay! Good girl” was often used for the poor thing to pose in many photos !!!  LOL

Okay, I’m not really sure about this, but I think Leopold was trying to honk at me last night. He doesn’t make noises at all, I suppose because he is deaf. But he was running in circles around my feet and he was really excited. He started making this muffled sound that sort of sounded like a honk, but it didn’t seem right. You know, like how deaf people can make sounds and feel the vibrations. I think it was like the bunny equivalent. Does that make sense?

Vienna, she was beautiful!! She looks so happy. The silence after a lost pet is dreadful.

LBJ, how cute! He tries to speak to you and can’t form the “words” right =) I find my dog “speaks” more and more as she gets older, it’s like she’s really trying to speak “human”, especially when she’s happy. I finally finished the new condo this week. I think it looks pretty good! The buns seem to enjoy it. I have a few little touches to add (some parts too slippery, needs a second litter pan), but they are living in it now! (They are free roam in the living room during the day, but I put them in at night. I don’t really know why, I guess they could get in just as much trouble during the day when I’m gone but it feels “right”.)

Moxie’s finally been eating more hay! yay for hay! ha ha. Her poops are the color they’re supposed to be and not very dark/black. I’ve been tinkering with her diet patterns and found if I wait to feed her pellets until late morning and then again at late night she’ll have filled up on the important stuff first (but will always make room for the pellets). She’s been having stomach issues lately so I’ve been trying to get her to eat more hay, so I was very excited to see proper poops lol!

MK – I went to a expensive college too (not as expensive as Creighton, but more than the university). They had extra scholarships for people with financial need, the money comes from donations. I don’t know what they have available at Creighton, but definitely apply for whatever you can. I would hate to see you go into a lot of debt.

Hi all, I’m currently away for a couple of days and have a friend coming round to feed the cat and the rabbit – requiring access through a double glazed window.
I had a text on the first night away : “could you call me, the girls are both OK but your door is not !”… nothing to do with the animals but the door handle came off in her hand leaving animals outside and her inside…!! LOL. So one emergency call to her stepfather, 3 hrs work later (!) and a disassembled door handle (never to be assembled again apparently….) and the animals were fed, cuddled and safe – YAY !!!!

Just Murphy’s luck that the (old) door handle would decide to give up the ghost on the 3 nights I am away….. Poor friend, I think she feels very guilty.

I’m TOTALLY ready for the Christmas season! (I know I may sound crazy) But bring on the pretty lights, pretty tree, hot cocoa, amazing music, snow delicately falling as you warm by the wood stove, cookies, cards, “family” feel, Christmas plays and so much more! Last year I didn’t really get into the “christmas spirit” because we had just moved, it was stressful, we didn’t really decorate and we got our tree like a week or two before Christmas.
Anyway, I’ve been listening to the music all day. I’m totally ready, and can’t wait for the Christmas tree farm to open up.

So today I spent pretty much my entire day making Abbie her dog food. What normally would only take 3 or 4 hours took so so long with a teething baby around. I don’t like the holidays. It’s so stressful for me. Plus the whole winter thing makes me very depressed and I probably won’t perk up until the first hint of spring. Gosh, I sound terrible. I’m so sleep deprived though. So tired and yet I can’t go to sleep at night. =\

Vienna Blue – It could have been worse! I felt so bad for someone who petsit for us (this was many years ago) and all of the animals gave her a hard time. Boy, they knew the difference and sure took advantage.

Well, we broke down an bought a second baby gate (buns have our old one in the doorway to their room) and some puppy pee pads. The poor dog is going to have to be corralled in the kitchen whenever we are gone for extended periods of time. I feel so bad. My husband wants dog diapers but I don’t think they would stay on her. And if they did, it would be pretty gross trying to get poop out of her fur. o_O

I’d vote no on the diapers too. Not sure if your’s is long haired. Our old Border Collie has that double coated butt hair that goes to the floor if left long. We trim his down to a short buzz on his back end. Ok..this is gross, but he has had some genetic issues and you know how they don’t have tails? Well he was actually missing more of his spine than he should, making his actually poop spot further in that it should be and it’s almost a shelf for it to land on. As long as he’s kept short and doesn’t have any loose stool issues it’s not a huge deal, but boy long hair and/or diarrhea is not a fun thing with him.

We also do a warm bath once a week, just to make sure there is nothing unseemly going on with the old Howard butt.

Anyways, he has to stay in the mud room that has a doggy door in it if we are not at home or going to bed. He mostly wants to go out there anyways cause his house in there and he is a creature of habit that needs his bunker to feel like all is well. He also likes access to outside cause he likes to lay in the dirt.

I’m sure the kitchen is a nice spot if she has her bed in it.

I’m in the north of France, not in Paris (but was due to be) and have texted a few Parisien friends to check they’re OK (they are).
This just brings it home to us how fragile our lives are, how one second can change everything and what crazy brainwashed people there are out there, prepared to do anything to follow orders – it’s like an international Nazi regime and is frightening.

So stop reading this and (again!) go give your furry friends a chin rub and scratch and don’t forget your human family members!

Cleo is looking better today since she’s been on the plain, chicken/rice diet. She got colitis (red blood in the stool and some other symptoms). We just need to go in to see what for sure is triggering it. She’s a very high-strung cat so it could be stress, but it could also be a parasite or something. She’s getting wormed monday and we’re just keeping an eye on her to be sure she’s doing better until monday. We’re still probably going to bring her in just to be safe, although sometimes you have to wonder if the anxiety and stuff traveling all the way to the vet is worth it? Cleo is a fearful cat (rescue. Her mother, her and brother were abandoned in an apartment while the mother was pregnant/they were infants. They had no human interaction until they were around a month and starving. After overcoming many hurdles, she still takes a long time to warm up to people, so the vets are a big no-no and a stress causer). *Sigh*

How come pet ownership is so stressful? Don’t get me wrong I love me furbabies to death and wouldn’t trade them for the world, but (probably like a real parents) sometimes with all their issues and stuff is can be very stressful!

Today we spent our day backpacking in the woods, mushroom hunting for the elusive lions mane mushroom. They are so so delicious! We were only able to find one today. We found 2 the other day. But it started getting a bit chilly and I didn’t want sampson getting too cold so we hiked back home. I can’t wait to eat it. Yummy! I hate mushrooms typically but these are so good and you can’t just go and buy them at the store lol

Yeah except lions mane is a really easy to spot mushroom. There’s no others that look like it so we felt comfy harvesting and eating. I’ve already had some the other night and told my husband we must find more while they’re still in season lol! I have noticed you can buy growing kits. My husband used to buy spores online and grow them. He has a strange fascination with mushrooms lol he eats them so much and I actually don’t like most haha I’ve only found three I like so far. Portabellum being one! Yummy! Not sure we are up for growing them right now though. Have too many things and projects going on haha but boy it’s fun getting out in the forest and just getting some green time in. Sampson also seem to really enjoy being outdoors. He seems to get bored inside. And as soon as he is fussy we can go outside and he quiets right down and is just calm and relaxed while outside so I enjoy it. We saw lots of other mushrooms but we don’t feel comfortable harvesting them since we couldn’t be absolutely sure about them lol

I tried growing Lion’s Mane mushrooms a couple of years back, but I’d no success. They don’t grow here naturally.
I love mushroom- hunting, I love outings into nature. But this year has been the worst year mushroom-wise I can remember. I normally dry lots of mushrooms, but this year there has barely been any.

If you want to start to pick mushrooms you should learn the most poisonous ones first and those that can be confused with them. Like Angel of death and Death cap. Avoid all white mushrooms that have white gills and all brown mushrooms with brown gills.

Shaggy parasols have white caps and white gills. Edible, but often confused with false parasol (which is poisonous). You can tell the difference by the spore print. Green=bad.

Whelp, I just scared the pants off of a couple of kids. There is a doggy poop bag dispenser outside. I use my own money to fill it with bags and they are free for people to take. I refilled it earlier today. Not an hour later, a couple of I’d say middle school aged boys came walking by and one of them went right for the dispenser. He grabbed the end and proceeded to unrolled the entire roll and string it across the yard. I saw the whole thing and yelled at them. They looked at my and took off pretty quickly. Then they saw me get into my car and they started running!

A bit worried. Wooly’s ear is bothering him again. The vet only cleaned his ear out and gave him eye drops last time. I still have eye drops, so I gave him some last night and today to see if it helped. Now he’s avoiding me like the plague. =\ I suppose I’ll have to call the vet tomorrow if it isn’t looking better. I feel so bad for him.

Not all white mushrooms with white gills are poisonous, it’s just a rule of thumb for beginners to ensure that you absolutely don’t happen to pick and eat amanita virosa (Angel of Death).
Shaggy parasoles are delicious! We have lots of them here in September. I don’t think of them as white.

We spent 4 hours sitting in a parking lot yesterday. We went to get some fast food and our truck broke down in the drive through… But at least we got our food first! We had to wait for the tow truck for 4 hours and barely made it to the repair shop before they closed. The agonizing thing was that the shop was just a couple of blocks away. It took longer to get our truck ready for towing than it did to actually drive over there… We would have been better off just pushing it there. Then they quoted us $500 (we were pretty sure the fuel pump broke). They were supposed to run a diagnostic this morning and call us back right away. After us calling them several times and getting nowhere, they finally called us this evening, about 30 minutes before closing time, and quoted us $857. So, yay…

We should have stayed home.

I refuse to talk to them because they think I’m a dumb woman who doesn’t know anything and they can get away with charging for unnecessary things. My car actually broke down recently and my husband fixed it. Took him 2 weeks, but he fixed it.

They promised they would get it all fixed up today, but who knows. It took them all day yesterday just to get the diagnostic done…

I had new engine supports put in and it only took a couple of hours (my husband couldn’t do that because you need a lift).

One year my mother bought a trampoline for real cheap, but it fell out of her cart on the way to the car. She had to sit out there in negative degree weather and wait with it until a worker passed by because people were waiting around to see if she’d leave it (to steal it obviously). So yeah, it’s crazy! (She also injured her back trying to pick it back up and put it in the cart herself. since then she hasn’t black friday shopped again )

Black Friday sounds scary. I didn’t know that took place during Thanksgiving. People can be completely mad.

Moxie, I and Ephi (dog) were taking a walk in the woods, when Ephi suddenly froze. She was looking at something in among the trees, and I tried to see what it was that had caught her full attention. Something black was sitting on a tree-stump among garbage (old shoes, a broken chair etc I thought it was a bird, but when I went up to it, I saw it was a black lop-eared rabbit. So I said (I remember our first conversation!) Hello, what are you doing there? And then I picked him up and he didn’t protest, he just let himself be picked up and sat there in my arms. He rode in the dog-crate back home where he was first housed in a cardboard box!

He’s getting a segment of clementine tonight and a few pumpkin-seeds. He’s had some yarrow, I was lucky to find some earlier today.

Black Friday IS scary! The funny thing is I spent almost my entire adult life working it each and every year. I got to witness the horrors, but luckily I was never the one trying to beat people over the head for that special deal.

A local rabbit rescue also mentioned in the link posted on FB that two rabbits had been ” dumped ” at this auto mall.

Unfortunately I don’t think I saw either of these two. I did see one bunny it may have been the dark one but it had white on its nose and under on its chest. The Dutch bunny was spotted by a mechanic yesterday on the lawn so at least it has been sighted since the first time. I felt bad leaving the one bunny out there but he didn’t seem interested in going near the carrier. Wish I had read the ” how to catch a bunny ” before I left, lol.

Rabbit populations here are kept in check by the dreaded and cruel myxomatosis-virus that was released sometime during the 1950ies–60ies or so. Wild rabbits here are stll officially classified as pests, but most people, in cities at least, like seeing them around and people get very upset when there are myxo-outbreaks (just about every fall).

I’m sorry you couldn’t catch the rabbit you saw and chatted to. It may not be a first-generation pet bunny but a bunny born at the auto mall, then it will be as wary of humans as a wild rabbit is.

The Auto Mall actually gives space to the Rabbitat rescue so they are on site there. The lady I have been chatting to said I should of come to see the rescue and that she will come out with me next time. Yes there are feral bunnies there, but still, hard to walk away from anybunny It is bitterly cold and the traffic..oddly that bunny was oblivious to the traffic unless the car/truck was exceptionally loud. Which leads me to think it wasn’t one who was recently dumped as they would not like the traffic ?

If I lived closer I’d be out there everyday helping those poor bunnies.

Also – Christmas time I will be taking Zou home. However the big enclosed side porch is not (very) bunny proof (no dangers for her, but plenty of things to ruin!!) and the big dog cage – ample space to be left for several hours – will not be big enough for her to boing boing around,

Does anybody have any ideas (except for another adjoined cage or massive DIY efforts to protect everything…) for temporary accomodation for 4 days for a big wabbit…..?

I am so frustrated right now! Paris keeps managing to EAT her collars! All of the collars she’s had, plus a harness has been ripped into shreds and I don’t know how she’s getting them off. They aren’t very “loose”. The last 2 collars she’s had she ATE them completely except for the metal ring and clip, but she ate all of the fabric. So I guess she’s going to have to be a collar-free dog inside.

Dirty Dancing ABSOLUTELY fabulous last night !! ALL the concert hall (85% women!!) seemed to know every second, every word and every breath of the film, and when ‘Johnny’ said rather theatrically ‘Nobody puts baby in the corner’ the whole place exploded with screams and clapping! I wasn’t expecting that, it was quite funny!!

Any ides for a temporary spacious rabbit home…?

Vienna I really can’t think of anything but perhaps a bathroom. Bathrooms are often rather bunny-proof or can be made bunny proof rather easy. Other than that, perhaps a dog-crate of the cheaper kind.

Oh my, we had a pet emergency a couple hours ago with Tilly.
My father got really sick from Pneumonia a couple days ago and literally almost died. He had to be gotten by an ambulance. Anyway, so he was prescribed some different meds for it. The bag of meds was dropped in between bringing some stuff from the car into the house. Tilly got a hold of it and chewed the bottles up. There were pills everywhere. After counting all the pills we don’t think she ate any, there’s was only like 1 pill missing (of a med that wasn’t terribly bad if she got it), but it could be lost somewhere. This happened outside. We’re still watching her closely though, although there’s been no symptoms. ANYWAY,
what got me REALLY upset on top of that was when we tried to call the pet poison helpline they wanted to charge us over $50 just to talk to somebody!

We are very happy that she didn’t really eat any (we don’t think she did). She could have been poisoned.

ON A HAPPIER NOTE, we’re getting our christmas tree on wednesday! Any tips to ensure the puppies stay away from it?

I have the happiest pet news I’ve had in ages to share: our Sukka has finally broken the 3kg mark, she weighed in at about 3,25kg this morning! We’ve been working hard toward this weight gain for months upon months, and 3kg was the first big goal we set for ourselves, and we’re FINALLY there! I’m so happy, I want to just go around shouting “THREE KILOS!!!” to everyone I meet. Sukka also feels so much stronger and less bony, her spine and ribs no longer jut out of her the way they used to. She’s starting to look like a healthy bunny. Now, we start work on our next goal: 4kg

bam – yes UK households used to always have carpets pretty much everywhere…. it’s so much warmer and cosier, but then wooden floors and tiles and ‘minimal’ deco came into fashion….! And a zillion childhood allergies and dust free homes….
In the bathroom and toilets (yes even there!) there are mats that are shaped to go around the central uprights (and then be washed of course…)

You could have table Christmas tree, a medium sized one which stands on a table and so goes up and over puppy and bunny stretching heights…!! LOL

I am looking forward to my first temporary fosters today. They are post spay or neuter ( don’t know if I’m getting the boy or girls or both ? ) and I don’t know if they have individual names. I know they are called the ” Honda babies ” because they were found outside the Honda dealership.

I found a organization that makes bunny toys in my own city finally which donates one toy per one that is sold. Except yesterday was ” Black bunny Friday ” so each toy sold one was donated not only to one in the ” shelter of the month ” but one was also donated to a Black bunny in a shelter nearby ! So while my two enjoy their two toys for Christmas four other bunnies will be too ! Good feeling

I have looked at items here in the store but the shipping is more than the item.

Our local shelter is doing a black friday through cyber monday special where all their pets are free. (only 1 free pet per household though)
They even brought a bunch of animals from other shelters for this event. So tempting lol!

Yeah NBO I totally agree with you, but this shelter is pretty strict. Like all of your current pets MUST be fixed, vet references if you have pets, ect. so they’re normally pretty good about them all finding GOOD homes. Plus, I believe all their pets are microchipped now in case they are found/dumped/brought in they’d know if they have had this pet before, owners/previous owners ect.

Moxie decided to jump me this morning by escaping her homebase, and then jump onto me and my dog (who were both peacefully trying to sleep). I’m pretty sure Moxie’s motives were to find food, so I snuggled with her a bit and then fed her and put her back in her homebase. She’s a silly thing!

For christmas temporary housing, i’m thinking of buying one of those fold away metal playpen puppy parc (the 8 grills you can fix together in any shape (square, rectangle, tetris L shape…) which is 90cm high (the other is 120cm high !!) and attach it to the dog cage. And I’m wondering if 90cm would be high enough…?
Zou can jump that if she’s got a wall or something to jump up against and launch off, but 90cm high with nothing to press against….? Hmmmm not sure)

I think a safe height is more like 150 cm. Mine could do 90 if they felt motivated, and they’re way smaller than Zouzou. But it does depend a lot on motivation if the bunny is adult. Young buns will jump anything just to explore.

OK yes I decided the £3 difference between 90cm and 120cm is not worth it to discover she can jump over the 90cm (She’s no featherweight – 6kg jumping 1m high !!!!)
But just to give you all out there an idea who don’t have a ruler handy, I’m 5ft 7 and 120cm comes up to my boobs !! LOL !!!! I’d like to see her try !!!! LOL !!

Yes his ” Helloooo Ladies ” is what i think Miss Josephine was reacting to lol. She’s like ” That’s my man ! ” Geez..Had to pry her little self off of the bars ! No the pen is in the kitchen so neither pen is affixed not to say at 2.4 lbs she can’t pull that cage, she certainly could. I don’t really leave the room except to use the washroom and so far she’s not tried moving the pen.

These are ” colony ” bunnies so are used to other bunnies, but not likely miss pit bull Josephine so they were not wary of her. Trusting little souls ! Thankfully mine have ceased the ” territorial poops ” before we needed a ladder to see over top of them :\ Always amazes me how rabbits can manufacture poops at will. Hop, poop,hop, poop ?..hmm

They were both spayed Friday and although they live about a dozen bunnies per colony when divided these two don’t seem to like each other much, so I woke up a few times to a small ruckus. I have a cage nearby so when I head out to the store one will be popped in there because we don’t need any stitches removed or other harm happening.

I recently was looking at adoptable bunnies and there was a black one and I immediately dismissed the idea because it was black. This was before the ” Black Friday Bunny ” situation. I had no idea black bunnies were so stigmatized and since one of these babies is black I’m glad to have the experience to be around her. I could easily see myself adopting her, she is so sweet. Since being around this rescue I have realized that the bunny I should adopt is not the one I want, but the one who needs me the most. There are some bunnies not suited to colony life and those need homes.

I know this is a house bunny forum but the reality is there are not enough homes for all the abandoned bunnies of this world so the work this lady does is detrimental to the safety of numerous bunnies. These bunnies are treated very well but not pampered like most of the house bunnies, mine included. Yet even the feral ones are approachable after she has caught them.

I didn’t know black bunnies were stigmatized. My Bam is black. I’ve read that black animals are not so popular these days because they are hard to get good pix of, and people want to have their pets pix on Insta and Facebook etc. And it really is harder to get a good pic of Bam where he doesn’t just look like a black lump of something. My boyfriend once had a pair of black slippers that looked like Bam, same size and all, I sometimes even spoke to one of them before realizing it wasn’t Bam =)

The black animal thing has been going on since as long as I can remember. Even worse seems to be pink eyed animals. People don’t want a red eyed pet, you know it’s evil.

if I was getting a pair a black bunny and a white bunny would be sweet, plus no chance of confusing them. haha Really though, I don’t think I have a real preference. I love a pet with really healthy looking hair and clear bright eyes with a personality that fits our household. I’ve had a ton of very old animals in my life as well, that I’ve had to watch slowly leave me…so hence glowing health seems the most attractive to me.

Willow is grey and she can be hard to see when she gets in the shadows..she kinda just melds into them.

And I prefer black rats and hamsters with the cute white feet (yes, I like rats as pets lol) my husband doesn’t like pink eyed animals and his main reason for that is because they can’t see as well which makes them more jumpy or jittery. He used to have a rat that was constantly swaying and sometimes she will nip at him if he moved too quickly. He always felt sorry for it, more than fearful or grossed out. He also says bunnies are evil, even regular eyed ones so… there’s that lol he thinks bunnies will rule thenworld one day and not in a good way haha

Not all of them are more jumpy! We have an albino rat and she is our most brave and laid back rat. She does do the stevie Wonder sway often though. She’s turning 2 here next month. She’s the one that you can take everywhere on your shoulder and not worry about anything startling her. She can run around the house free roam and you just have to call her to pick her back up. She has a bad habit of wanting to stick her head in your mouth to see what you are eating, but other than that she’s amazing.

I’ve known about black and black and white cats for a while… even before the internet changed our photo habits for good!
I think there’s an “adopt a black cat” day in the UK too.

I think it’s because you can’t really see their facial characteristics, or sometimes even which way they are facing !! LOL

My Zouzou is a very VERY shiny dark slate blue, really dark and I’m trying to get a lovely photo of her close up… just fur and whiskers…. it’s tricky indeed !
To get a good focus it either needs to be manually focused and manually shutter speeded (!) and also manually ISO’d, it’s hard.
Putting a white piece of paper up against their fur helps an automatic focus to catch on to something and for the light to be gauged… but it’s ain’t easy to get a high quality close up !! And then of course, just on THE shot that’s going to win prizes, they move and want to sniff the lens !!!

Let’s say it’s a “work in progress”… I’ll keep you informed!! :o)

Moxie is black. With proper lighting photos can turn out great. =) But yeah. black pets tend to have a hard time finding homes. The backyard breeders will sell their left over rabbits that didn’t find homes as snake food, and they are normally black rabbits.

My grandmother is in the hospital currently. She can’t eat or take her meds. They’re doing some tests. Still in Florida and still nursing her. She’s moving in to my Aunt’s after I leave, so she can have more care than my mom can give her (my Aunt gets home earlier). We have had to redo the ceiling AND floor (rip it all out and build it back) to get her room over there set up. Painted everything. Tiled it. I am a lousy carpenter haha

I had a sweet surprise this morning. It’s really cold here and I always keep seed and suet out for the birds. I was coming in from the car to bring in groceries and fluttering around my face was a hummingbird~! I was so surprised, I had no idea they were even around in such cold weather. I felt terrible guilty and had to go dig out the feeder and filled it. The little thing has been back several times today~!
