On saturday morning at around 7 am i realized that Nuni didnt poop in about 12 hours but i gave her a few more hours and she eventually did. She pooped way less than she usually does and almost all of them were small. She was eating, running, binkying and acted like her normal self, i was quite worried but my family said we’ll wait and see if she gets better, if not we’ll take her to the vet. I also gave her the baby gas drops and she pooped around 45 minutes later (still not much). On sunday she slept under the couch for like the whole day, didnt poop in a really long time, didnt eat much and just seemed quite out of it. I wanted to take her to the vet but i couldnt because of some stuff and felt super guilty about it. Then on monday she seemed to feel better she was back to her normal self but still wasnt pooping like herself. She now poops couple times a day (less than she used to) but its a small pile and theyre mostly tiny/small ones mixed with a few normal sized ones. I also cut out her pellets on monday cause i thought she was going into gi stasis and i read that most people said to just give greens and hay. Whats going on with her? I decided to wait till thursday to see if she gets better or is this considered an emergency and i should go to the vet ASAP??

If a rabbit stops pooping and/or eating, it’s considered an emergency and they need to see a vet. Why on earth would you wait until Thursday?

Rabbits can go into stasis if they stop eating, which is where their gut stops moving. It can be very difficult to get it moving again once it’s stopped. It can be deadly.

If she hasn’t been pooping normally for 3 days, and has been lethargic and sleeping she definitely needs to see a vet.

You haven’t mentioned what she’s been eating, but since it’s been going on for 3 days, she definitely needs to be checked for underlying problems. She could be in pain from something else, which is discouraging her from eating, or her teeth could be overgrown for example.

Shes currently eating lots of hay, lettuce and a bit of some other veggies on the side. Its the first time shes gotten sick since ive had her so im just really confused at what i should do. My family keep telling me we should wait cause they think she will get better on her own, since shes binkying and acting like her normal self again they dont think its that serious even though i told them that this might be.

If she’s eating plenty and she’s active and there is poop, this doesn’t sound like an emergency to me. It sounds more like a gut slowdown that she’s recovering from. That can happen, a gut slowdown caused by for example light stress (warm weather, scary noise, scary smell etc) can cause gas, gas is painful, simethicone can bring relief.

You should still keep an eye, of course. If she stops eating (wont even take a treat) it is an emergency and I’d not wait more than 6 hours tops to get her to a vet.

It’s very good she’s eating plenty of hay.

If she’s young you can give her a very small amount of pellets tonight. Like half a teaspoon. Then slowly but steadily increase, unless you see any adverse effects.

But if she’s an adult bun, you can keep up the hay-and veg-only diet for a few days more. Hay is the best thing for rabbit tummies. It helps make the poop big and “golden” and porous. It gives adequate food to the gut bacteria that are so vital for a bun’s wellbeing. Hay has more nutrients than you’d think – we humans can’t get nutrients from hay, but rabbits can, thanks to their gut microorganisms.

If she eats lots of hay and drinks water/eat wet greens, I dont think her poop will stay small very long.

I havent seen her eat her cecotropes in 1-2 days(i usually see her eat them a few times a day before all this happened), is it a concern?

Hi there! I honestly would take her to the vet to make sure everything in her is okay. My bun just got out of the hospital for GI Stasis which almost killed him. You want the vet to check her because something could be bothering her that you don’t see. And if anything isn’t wrong, it’s a peace of mind you get from the vet
