Kratos has began to rip his hair out.   He just started a few days ago but most of his fluffy undercoat is gone.  Is he just getting ready for summer or something going on?  we keep our house at around 70 all year round so I didn’t think that is too hot and he doesn’t get to go outside if it is too warm.  Thank you for your help.

has he gone thru his springtime shed yet? most of our bunnies are done i think, but maybe he’s a bit late. how often do you groom him? i also think that fur pulling can be a sign of boredom too. is he doing it in clumps or all over? does his skin look healthy?

            I wonder:

Are you sure Kratos is a boy?
            Has he been fixed?

I was on the same page as Markus:  Are you sure he’s a he?  Some bunnies do this when preparing for a litter, so more info may be helpful.  Also are you in any of the midwest areas that have been dealing w/ either the extreme weather conditions or recent earthquakes?

Thank you Beka.  No he hasnt gone through his spring time shed that I have noticed.  (I am assuming it is something I would notice? )  We had a long cold spring if weather makes a difference to a house bunny.  He has been shedding a lot more than usual the past 2 weeks.  I try to brush him a couple of times a week but he doesn’t always hold still and I heard that you shouldnt brush bunnies too hard or with too harsh of a brush so I just use like a soft bristle kitten brush.  He is only pulling his undercoat and leaving his top coat alone.  He doesn’t seem to be having any of the agressive bunny problems he had before so I think he is finally entertained with his new boxes and tunnels.

where in the house are you brushing him? i have found that this can make a huge difference. try to brush him on the bathroom or kitchen counter, or even dining room table. gather all of your supplies first, put a towel down, have him face away from you, and you should be able to brush for about 5 minutes. being up high and out of his “territory” will make him insecure enough to not move around so you can get the job done. plus it’s easier on your back to not have to bend over (added bonus!) i’d keep an eye on him and see if someone can help you hold him so you can check his skin underneath.

i’m glad to hear he’s entertained now. boredom is really a big issue with house buns. many people don’t realize how necessary it is to stimulate them.

I’m not sure when in Indiana you are but I’m in Chicago and Pepper began her semi-annual fursplosion the week after Memorial Day.  That tyming is similar to what you describe, so it is most likely the spring shed.

Pepper’s seems to be triggered the first time it gets over 82 for a day or so.  Three days later FOOMPF!
