Not Peeing in New Cage

  Hey everyone! I finished building Thumper’s cage and he LOVES it. He runs crazy all around it, binkies, flops – all the works! However, for some reason I don’t think he’s peeing in his new cage? When I first started putting him in the new cage he would pee in his litter box as we put towels in there to match the towels that he used to pee on in his old cage. Now though about maybe a month into having his new cage and I never hear or see him pee? He poops just fine all over the cage but he won’t pee unless it’s during floor time on the carpet (thanks thumper) or if I put him back into his old cage. If I put him back in his old cage he immediately pees. I just worry that he is hurting his bladder? I don’t know why he won’t pee in the new cage!! Any advice would help – thank you!

  Helping him associate he can pee in there may help. When he’s about to go during carpet time, can you pick him up and bring him in there? Can you soak something in his pee and place it in the cage litter box?

  Thank you i will try that!! I just don’t understand why he stopped peeing in there to begin with? He was fine the first couple weeks he’d go in the litter box.

  Rabbits have certain prerequisites for a place to seem suitable as a natural pee spot. Like with humans, we expect a toilet mechanism, some form of privacy and generally a seated position, as well as other nuances like toilet paper and a sink. Rabbits I’m sure have their own parameters, so he may not have really seen a suitable pee spot there anymore. Letting him know it’s acceptable to pee there may help.
