I went and bought 3 boxes of the ORganize it cubes at target. I looked at the box and seen on it that it had the 14×14 square grid with the 8 x8 small square through out  the grids that I needed…. and I even opened a box and took out a grid too make sure they were the right ones

On the box it reads 23 grids and 24 connectors

When I got home to start the cage I started connecting the grids, well after my ninth grid I pull out the tenth, and  it was a different grid.. it was the huge 3″ square grids …. so I look in the box and the other 14 grids in the box are the huge square grids…..

so out of the 3 boxes and 69 grids I have – I can only use 27!!!!!  The rest are the large square grids

No one else that I have seen sells 2 different grids in the box.

I called around to find out if any one else sells JUST the smaller grids in a box, but no one has them, bed bath and beyond does, but only in silver, and I started building in white….

I was just very angry, and feel that it is quite stupid 2 have 2 different size grids in the box….

did anyone else have this happen to them??

Now i  have to buy 2 more boxes to finish my cage!!!

Question: Do you think I can use the large square grids as shelves if I have pegboard over it? I realy don’t want these to go to waste and need to somehow use them..

i would take them apart and return them to target. tell them you are unhappy with the product and they have to take it back, even if it is opened. some of the targets sell both types, you have to look very, very closely at the box. there was quite a bit of outrage in the bunny community when they changed their design. the way i see it, every complaint they get in regards to the design, is maybe one step closer to them going back to the way they were before.

i think when they have sales on grids, they are the bad ones that are on sale, the good ones usually stay full price.

I don’t see why you can’t use the bigger square grids for the levels as well as the top and bottom of the cage, as long as they can’t stick their noses through it. You could make the levels out of the 3″ grids and cover them with coroplast or something equally stiff. Then make the sides out of the smaller square grids.

Unfortunately, the maker of the grids have begun to do the mix batch of smaller and larger grids. It is a cost saving measure for them (less steel). What I have seen people do is use the small grids for the walls and then use the larger grids for the roof or for platforms that they then cover with cloroplast or rug fragments.

The first round I bought from target I also had the mixed box – and they did let me return them even though the box was open without any problems. I found that the same brand sells chrome cubes, and that entire box is the small grids, although it is a bit more expensive per box than the white or black ones. My enclosure has no roof and a wood base, so I really had no use for the big grids at all. Hopefully it all works out for you!

I got stuck with a couple of those boxes, after getting over my mad and not wanting to make the 30 mile drive back to the store, I decided to use the larger grids for the roofs where the bunnys wouldn’t be walking.

Yeah I decided to make the roof out of the large grids, and I also decided to make a floor out of it also since I am going to cover it with something. I will also attempt to make shelves out of it as well.
I will get over it I am sure once the cage is finished…. but it wasnt what I was expecting. Damn Target! =)

You could overlap them, or get a bigger rabbit!

I had the same issue.  I thought “these are cheaper, BONUS!” I got home and was disappointed.  I use the larger grids for different areas of the cage as a result.

aaggghhhhh……….SteveandPepper, we need to add that to the list of things only bunny slaves would think of –

                          “or get a bigger rabbit!”

AND think it’s a great idea! (I do!)

                          lol, Kathy

We had the same problem. I ended up with 3 boxes of cubes. What we did was use all the small ones for the walls of the cube, use the large ones for the door, the roof, and floor, and then used the large squared ones for a play pen.

Yes, I’ve had that happen and we’ve had several unhappy discussions about it. They stopped selling the shelving with all the 2″ grids and have some with the huge 3″ ones. I would package them up, take them back and head to Wal-Mart. I hear they have a different brand that has all the smaller grid in them.

I bought the older packages when they were clearing out of them so I had them on hand, just in case I needed them.  Maybe I should auction them off on E-bay.

We just used a mixture of the large and small grids.. our rabbits heads fit out the large holes, but not their bodies, so they wont jump out.. and their heads aren’t tight enough in there to get stuck.. its not really a problem..

I think I would still be really concerned that even though their heads can get through but their whole body can’t, it doesn’t mean that they won’t try and may get stuck and could really hurt themselves. I really advise against using the large grids for the sides of the cage for any sized rabbit.
