I have kitchen scale to weight the pellets to solve several simple math problems

If you are feeding your rabbit 1/4 cup of pellets a day.

I scooped 30 times (around 30 days per month) of 1/4 cup pellets into big bowl on the kitchen scale. (don’t worry bowl won’t add up the weight, the weight start zero unless I added pellets)

One month of 1/4 cup is around 2.5 pounds of pellets

Look at your bag to see how many pounds of pellets are in the bag.

If it is 5lbs then your bag will last around 2 months

If it is 10lbs then your bag will last around 4 months

If it is 20 lbs then your bag will last around 8 months. (make sure you check expire date)

If it is 25 lbs then your bag will last around 10 months. (make sure you check expire date)

If you are feeding your rabbit 1/8 cup of pellets a day.

I scooped 30 times (around 30 days per month) of 1/8 cup pellets into big bowl on the kitchen scale. (don’t worry bowl won’t add up the weight, the weight start zero unless I added pellets)

One month of 1/8 cup is around 1.3 pounds of pellets

Look at your bag to see how many pounds of pellets are in the bag.

If it is 5lbs then your bag will last around 4 months

If it is 10lbs then your bag will last around 8 months (make sure you check expire date)

If it is 20lbs then your bag will last around 16 months (one year and 4 months) (make sure you check expire date)

If it is 25lbs then your bag will last around 20 months (one year and 8 months) (make sure you check expire date)

If you are using oxbow pellets for rabbits. I strongly suggest to use 5lbs bag instead of 10lbs or 50lbs bag because it will last 2 months (1/4 cup) or 4 months (1/8 cup). It also will help the pellets to stay fresh

If you are using oxbow pellets and feed 1/4 cup of pellets a day for your rabbit. It will only cost you around 60 dollars yearly.

If you are using oxbow pellets and feed 1/8 cup of pellets a day for your rabbit. It will only cost you around 30 dollars yearly.

I hope I help out little bit for people aren’t good with budget plans or math.

***NOTE**** sorry I cannot measure the weight of hay for you because I cant predict good enough for my rabbit. Sometime, he ate a lot of hay but other days he didn’t eat enough hay. It pretty random. Sorry.

Hm, that’s interesting! Thanks! I usually buy the 10lb Kaytee pellets – they last a really looong time when you only feed 1/4 of a cup per day.

Taurus that is wonderfully helpful info, thank you! ^_^ I’m thinking I really do feed my bunnies too many pellets if that’s the breakdown.
*sigh* I wish you could help teach my daughter math, she has a terrible time with it.

Are you serious that oxbow cost you 15 dollars?

I can buy oxbow basic T 5 lbs for 9.99 at petsmart.

You can try to look up at different pet stores to see if they are selling cheaper price for you.

Thanks for compiling this list! I think that sounds about accurate with my buns… I used to try to track how long it was taking them to finish a bag… but I’d always forget. The 5lb bags will be gone thru quicker, therefore it will be more fresh, but depending on the number of buns you have, it might make more sense to get the larger bags. Some places sell the larger bags for a little bit less, so you can save some money that way too.

I perfer oxbow pellets so the bigger bag is 10 lbs for 20 dollars. It is no different for me to buy 5lbs for 10 or 10 lbs for 20 dollars. I’ll go for 5 lbs for more fresher for my rabbit to eat

If you perfer to get bigger bag other than oxbow pellets, I hope it contain good ingredents (sp?) that will make your bunnies live longer.

                                  anyway, you’re welcome!

Wow, I didn’t know that. Is petsmart near you? I’m sure petsmart should sell 10 dollars.

anyway, I’m using Kaytee but I’ll switch to oxbow when the pellets will be gone.

You can buy big bag like 20 lbs for only like 25 dollars (only if you feed your rabbit 1/4 cup of pellets per day and it will last around 8 months)

You can buy bag like 10 lbs for like only 10 to 20 dollars (only if you feed rabbit 1/8 cup of pellets per day and it will last around 8 months, too)

Soo.. Let me do fun math for you if you still want to feed your rabbit oxbow pellets.

1/4 cup of pellets per day
                                      15 dollars each bag..

soo.. it will cost you 90 dollars a year.

Or if you feed 1/8 cup of pellets per day
                                      15 dollars each bag..

soo. It will cost you 45 dollars a year.

If that is still too much money for you to pay..
Well then go for Kaytee. Good luck

                                            Alright,

I went to petsmart today to get my cat food ( I adopt senior cat few days ago) I checked oxbow bags. 5lbs for 12 dollars

Lucky for me, I found the bestest pet store I ever been in. Workers feed proper foods for any pets. (Most pet stores don’t do that because they dont feed hay to rabbits/guinea pigs/small rodents) They also sell reasonable prices. I found 10lbs of Basic T oxbow pellets for 15 dollars!! Oh my gosh!

10 lbs for 15 wow.  That is very good.

my buns love Kaytee Timmy.   However I go to the petstore near me last month and bought some Nature’s Promise Zupreem.  Thats what I used to feed them.  However when I went to get more months past they wouldn’t have any.  Now I  just buy an extra bag and keep 1 extra bag around.

Works out good for when I buy mountain hay in bulk 30 lbs it can go a few months so I can get extra bag of food and another month extra bag of litter.   That way  I almost have extra in case of hurricane or what have you.

I find my buns I need to feed them just under 1/8 a cup so they eat more hay.  The food seems to last a good while.

So we have a math whiz here excellent excellent Taurus excellent.
