I took a walk with my camera yesterday at a nature preserve that’s very close by called Wakotahatchee. It’s a great mile-long boardwalk. I thought you might like to see pictures of the inhabitants there. Several years ago you could catch sight of a wild bunny, but not recently.

Here are: a turtle swimming; a blue heron; blue heron flying away; guinea hen with two babies; and 3 pix of an alligator coming out of the water, crossing the embankment, and swimming on the other side. I took those fast and kept walking!

ooooTracy, I LOVE Manatees! Great pix – no I haven’t heard of that park. I’m in Palm Beach County. (Atlantic coast)

The boardwalk circles the wetlands which is watered by the water utility next to it. The gator was behind a railing that runs around the whole boardwalk. (See heron picture.) They are usually sunning on these man-made islands in the middle of the pond, but where that one was I had seen a mama and baby gators on the ground about a year ago. It may have been a baby that stayed on that end of the trail. It would have to try hard to get through the fence, but it’s possible.

No, it is doubtful that it got the bunnies. The hawks scared them (bunnies) off to safer grounds I’m sure. I’ve seen a sunning gator with a heron standing on its head. The groundskeepers make sure they are fed to minimize the danger. Hippos are MUCH more dangerous! I think the gators and turtles look like ancient creatures that managed to survive.

Around here there’s a report in the news about someone with a gator in their back yard about twice a year. Of course, when I lived in the Berkshires in MA, it was baby bears in trees. Frankly, gators are not cute. Guinea Hen babies are. Their beaks are bright red.

Do you have any idea how badly I want to see England?
The only time I’ve been outside the US was one trip to Montreal when I was about 20.
I’m reading an Elizabeth George mystery right now – it all sounds so beautiful. (Except for the corpse).

WHOAH!!! An aligator!!! The reason for me not to go to Florida! I see those on TV and they scare me. Just the fact that they are so fast… and hungry.

rabbitpam it is far from beautiful here, there have been 17 children under 16 stabbed in london alone since january, rapes and breakins are on the up, everyone is ignorant no-one will talk to u without giving you a funny look like ‘i cant believe u are talking to me when u dont even no me how gay are u?’ and the beautiful countryside is just as you said, a thing from books because now it has been completely destroyed to put up houses for the increasing population which tiny old england just cant fit in, its nothing like the rosey place the press makes out.
