Is it possible that Rose lost weight in a month? Her dewlap looks smaller.  And she looks smaller in general, maybe Hammer grew and thats changing my judgement.  She isnt really overweight, so no diet really.  But her dewlap really is smaller! Just 1/3 of oxbow basic t pellets, 6 cups of veggies and tons of hay.  They only thing thats changed in her diet since her foster home that im aware of is her pellet brand, she has on kaytee then, and twice the veggies.  But could a month of switching to oxbow make a difference already?  I thought it toke a while for buns to lose weight… is this normal?

My bun Olivia lost weight seemingly fast at one point and my bun Bindi as well while he was on antibiotics. If your worried she is losing weight I suggest you buy a scale to use at home (I bought a kitchen scale that weighs up to 11lbs) and weigh her once a week, on the same day every week and record her weight. Then you’ll know if she’s losing weight abnormally or not.

Thanks LPT, will do if it seems to continue. I think she is going to the vet in the near future for a nail trim. I trim Hammers nails, but im a little nervous about hers lol. Anyway ill talk to them about this.  But it makes me feel better that they can lose weight that fast in some cases

Yes it can happen quite suddenly..She was a bit overweight if I remember right? I think when bunnies get to good homes, where they don’t eat out of boredom, eat more hay and get regular exercise they can drop the excess weight pretty quickly

i’m also wondering if she’s getting more outtime now… exercise can make a bun trim up a bit as well…

Well she is getting quit a bit of playtime now, but she just recently started using it. She used to spend it all lounging half a foot outside of her cage. Now she is comfortable and doing binkies all over the place. And let me tell ya, she can do some serious binkies! Every so often she will binky so fast and hard and hit something that i freak out and have to check on her. Which of course makes her thump because im not allowed to move or talk when its her playtime. She jumps up on my bed sometimes to carefully say hello but usual runs before long.

She is a bit overweight, but nothing serious. She has a big (but smaller now) dewlap and a fat roll on her butt when she sits down lol. So she just gets one papaya tablet and one raisin a day. I still treat Hammer though.. two raisins and the occasional sliver of carrot or banana. And im really not to sure of her foster mom.. im not convinced that she had regular exercise or greens. Her foster mom said something like they dont get as much as they would like playtime wise, but they have a lot of bunnies so.. She said she got one salad a day, being romaine parsley and green leaf. But when Rose got here she ignored her veggies. Maybe not connected to her foster home but still makes me think. Anyways im positive she gets much more greens and variety and playtime here.

i hear you on the foster home thing, but it is not an easy undertaking having so many rabbits to care for. it’s normal that they might get less playtime b/c there are sometimes just not enough hours in the day. it’s still probably better than being in an actual shelter… veggies too… veggies are expensive and for so many buns you need to make cuts sometimes and just hope they get into a home soon that can give more time and attention.

what matters is that Rose is being cared for by YOU now… the number one Covington, KY bunny slave… LOL! and you’re doing such an awesome job with her!

Thanks Beka!! And yea I feel for the foster homes, they do what they can and their hearts are in the right place. I just wish more people cared and their wouldnt be a problem in the first place ya know? Their wouldnt be so many buns in shelters or foster homes, if people just did the research before they got the incredibly cute baby bunny. Just makes me mad lol
