So I get a new bunny (Noot) and then pretty much have to leave right away to go on vacation and barely get to enjoy him! So I gotta post again about how awesome he is.
Firstly with Chuck’s one eye, he gets discharge and I have to clean it every day. We had hoped that with a friend (Rupert & Kahlua) that they would groom it but they didn’t. It never bothered him, but mommy picking him up and cleaning it did bother him. WELL Noot is cleaning it and I’ve never seen it look so good! What a sweety!![]()
I have to tell you guys because, I tried telling my family how cool it was that Noot was keeping Chuck’s eye so clean and they just thought that was gross ![]()

Chucks getting more and more confident-no more couch for him, he runs around the apartment now! A side effect of this, he’s always tried to ‘burst’ out of my arms when I’m holding him (the shelter I got him from noticed this too and warned me thankfully) well now that he’s sooo confident he’s trying really HARD to jump out of my arms
Glad we’re moving and we won’t have to take him out of the third story condo to play-so no more carrying him to transport him-that problem will be solved!
I tried to get some videos of him moving around, but my card was full from vacation so I’ll try again soon-here’s what I have though!

And this one is from before (it’s a couch picture) but it’s sooo cute and I can’t remember if I shared it or not ![]()

KK, I have to say you really made my day with the update on Noot and Chuck! That is the sweetest thing that he cleans his eye. And Chuck is really getting around on the floor!
I love them together. Noot is such a gentle bun…
I love that there are poops on the couch in that first photo!!!!
It is really great to hear about Chuck running around.
Winston gets a weepy eye when he eats – when he first got to the shelter there was a scratch on that eye, but the doc sad there is nothing wrong with it. Any way Kay always keeps Winston’s weepy eye clean too! And, yea – it is a little gross,
Watching Chuck, I’d never suspect he was blind. In fact, I’d almost want to ask are you sure he is? He made that corner around the couch without slowing down a bit.
Ah, that’s so great! Chuck has a great life with you, and now it’s even better with Noot in it!
Makles me sooo happy to see them together like that.
I thought the same thing Markus just said. Is it at all possible that some sight has been restored with Noot’s constant grooming?
He is amazingly able to run all around the room.
Awww they’re so cute!! I love Chuck! He has that cute grouchy face, lol!
Actually if you watch the video closely he bumps into the green igloo
He is quite capable after a few passes, but still bumps into things-but I think he’s a true testament to what they say-animals cope-no matter the disability they manage-he just plugs on. Before we only put him on the couch because if we put him on the floor he’d either hide in a corner or run into walls-not hard but still sad!
I’ll see if I can get a good picture of his only eye but it’s very cataract’d. He *does* detect light with it-if he’s awake and you switch the light on and off, he’ll blink. However a flashlight does not dialate the pupil and he doesn’t respond to other tests like bringing your hand quickly towards the eye
Definitely very limited vision in the one eye. But I have hope that there is some vision. Definitely shows that even being quite handicapped they can cope!!
I’d been thinking of having the eye removed, it’s something that will eventually have to happen according to the vet and the vet who saw him in Vancouver(it will likely continue to degenerate and maybe have to be amputated if it causes problems)-I’d wanted to as it was discharging etc. and I figured it would make his life easier (he does not like mommy cleaning it) but dave found out that he does respond to light changes-so although he really can’t see much-I think it helps him connect to the world-and even maybe tell the difference between being awake and asleep?
He’s funny-my others are so dependant on sound-but he smells me. If I come up to the condo, even if he’s sleeping I can watch his nose as he catches a wiff of me (I smell pleasant I assure you LOL
) and his nose changes how fast it’s smelling and then he’ll sit up and stretch his neck to smell towards me. I wait for all that to happen before I pet him and he doesn’t startle anymore
It’s been trial and error-but I think we’re doing great-especially with Noot’s help!
Ok I knew if I waited It’d be weeks before I got a picture of his eye (he only has one-the other was removed some time ago) so I popped off and got some
Noot was trying to protect him from the camera
so cute….Noot is sooo protective but it’s funny because Chuck is the dominant one-with Noot following him around ![]()
You can see the cataract ok in this one

and during nose rubs (to let Noot know its ok
)

I would hold off on having it removed because it does seem like he is detecting shades of differences in light and shadow. In humans the cataract could be removed, improving the eye, but that’s so different from exotics surgery I guess. I think the most minute thing makes a difference in Chuck’s life, so unless it is sore or hurting him at all, I would wait.
How old are they now? Noot is so special.
Yes grooming the eye does sound gross. But how else would they do it. They don’t have hands and tissues.
Awe gentle giants well they aren’t giant but you know…![]()
They look so good together. Unless the eye gets worse I also think leaving it would be ok for now.
I would also be worried about removing it unless absolutely necessary, if it were causing him pain/discomfort. It sounds like he’s really coming out of his shell, and the surgery and recovery time may make him take a step or two back.
That’s so great that Noot can help his buddy out. And yes, cleaning the eye is gross in human standards, but it’s okay for a bunny.
(“Oh honey, you have a little something there…” *lick!* ————-> yes. gross.)
All I can say about the first picture is… “loookat dat face!”
I know hey Markus-I have a hard time not cuddling the fur off him-he’s sooo sweet and with those ears looks like a little puppy
Yeh-I think that’s the gameplan, just monitor the eye and so long as it’s not bothering him (which it never seems to -he does not spend a long time grooming it or anything) we’ll keep it!
Pam-Noot is eight and Chuck is six-they’re my two old boys ![]()
Oh, that’s good. I knew Noot was a mature bun, but for some reason I thought Chuck was a bit younger. It’s better for them to be close in age I think.
It’s a happy ending for them both, except it’s really a happy beginning! ![]()
the Noot & Chuck story has got to be the sweetest story ever! <3
I love hearing about these two but I’m curious..if our typical buns use body movement to talk then how does Chuck truely communicate with Noot? I noticed in one of those videos Chuck went under that tunnel thing by the couch and Noot seemed to turn around as if to check on him.
Wish they had found eachother earlier but they have eachother now ![]()
Chuck does a lot of touching I think-he’ll reach out for Noot-and Noot seems to be touching Chuck to get him to know he’s there. When he approaches, he’ll gently touch Chuck. I just loooove seeing them snuggled up together-it’s not at all like they’re putting up with each other-they really like each other. I’m still all warm inside from it-couldn’t have worked out better!
