        Hi,

So my bonded pair currently live in a playpen/x-pen and I have been thinking of ways I can improve their habitat. One of these ways would be to have them free roamed in my bedroom. This is only an idea as I still live with my parents and they are concerned with leaving them alone in my bedroom for long periods of time (they do occasionally get supervised free roaming time in my room).

There are a few issues with them living in my room, but one that came to mind recently was them being loud during the night and waking me up. I have one very loud and energetic bunny who I know can be very active during the night and likes to dig and throw things around and just make noise in general.

I know lots of people’s bunnies love primarily in their bedroom so I was wondering if this was an issue for anyone else and what you’ve done to stop it. 🙂

Bunnies will be bunnies, but some can definitely get into more “trouble” than others. Have you thought about bunny-proofing your room and allowing free-roam during the day? Then they could be “put to bed” at night in a pen or condo so they won’t be running around while you’re sleeping.

Yeah I think I definitely need to bunny proof my room better and gradually increase the amount of time they free room in my bedroom. At the moment they are in the living area so they would go back there at night, and I like you idea of just having them free roaming during the day to start of with. I guess over time I will learn how to reduce any noise.

It will probably be a long process building my parents trust that they won’t destroy everything and be a huge mess when I am gone. The fact they are even inside at all is a huge step for my dad, and honestly (even though he doesn’t think so now) he will probably prefer it if they are in my room because they will be “out of his way”.

When my buns were in my room (i was in a studio apartment, so it was all one room lol), I definitely had “quiet toys” and “loud toys” for them, and I would only give them the more quiet toys at night. I definitely got used to the normal bunny chewing noises as well. Having a fan on for white noise helps as well.

With any buns, it’s a good idea to start with supervised free-roam because bunny–proofing can be an ongoing process. Even buns that have been “good” for a long time can suddenly find some new mischief to get into.

I’ve also found that giving supervised free-roam time during buns most active times of day (morning and evening) is as good, if not better, than 100% free-roam. When I let my buns out in the morning and evening they run around and explore, but when I’ve experimented with 100% free-roam they tend to just loaf around and sleep! Another tip is to have certain toys that are only given to them while free-roaming, so they are extra exciting to them.

Thank you so much Dana! I really like the idea of using the fan for white noise. I get what you mean about daily free roaming being potentially better than 100% free roaming. They are always super excited in the beginning and then they just chill out haha.
