TRANING STARS NOW!!!
after bringing hershey out i finally got curiouse enough to go see what was so interesting behind the rocking chair…..
Hershey has been using is as a bathroom!!!!!!!!!!!!
GRRRRR!!!
Thats it… no more free range bunny time… i just built a small baracaid aroung the rocking chair and surronding area… and am now sittine on the couch beside it! (might i mention WITH a squirt gun!!!
shes been out 20 minutes and is almost fully soaked!
Bunny will/must learn if its the last thing i do!!
why don’t you just put a litterbox under that chair?
it wont fit… hershey can barly fit under it…. and it not just under the chair its also behind it.. im assuming thats why she likes it though because nobody not even the cats go near there…..
Oh no! What about making her a little bathroom out of a cardboard box or something with a hole only big enough for her?
haha. I guess, she wants privacy!
lol she was upset when i took her box away….
Maryann used to steal the small boxes of raisins that I would buy and stash them around the apartment. being forgetful, I never knew where I left them. But she’d spend way too much time behind some piece of furniture and when I went over there, sure enough. A box of raisins. And of course, once I took them away, I got a few foot stomps when she went back there for another snack.
sneaky bunnies
I had three kittens this year (Born to feral mom who I also brought in) inside this year while I found them homes. I let the kittens romp as my dog didn’t bother them. Found out the same thing after they were all gone (wondering why I smelled cat poop even after they were gone) they’d been going on a face cloth behind the recliners (don’t ask me how it ended up over there) -there was a pile of kitten poop (like three or four poops!) behind the chair we didn’t notice for almost two days!!
MirBear, sorry to hear. My bunnies took a liking for a certain corner in one of the rooms. I blocked the access to that corner for a good while, and now there is no more peeing outside the litterbox. Once it is a habit to pee a certain place, it takes a while for them to “un-learn” it again. I think I read somewhere that it takes 2-3 weeks.
You can spray the chair in that area with a vinegar and water mix to get rid of the smell and make it more repellent. I actually favor the idea of a litter pan in the spot behind it though. Or try a litter pan just next to the chair, so she can relax but not have to go far to use it. It’s a good idea to have litter pans in one or two places besides their cage.
Maryanne is a doctoral candidate. She has an IQ of 160.
How far is her litterrbox from behind the chair? If you can sort of herd her back to the box that may be helpful. You can also try and spray a little perfume under the chair as well as a deterrent (YOU DON’T NEED MUCH at all!)
In our old place, for some reason there was a corner that the bunnies would like to go to the bathroom in. Back then I came across a really great tip that happened to work for me (I, for the life of me, have not been able to find the original source!) But it was very helpful. It was the technique of teaching them the word litter box:
The moment that one of bunnies would head over to the corner and lift their tail, I said the word “litterbox” over and over while herding them back to the box. Warn family members about this as you will drive them crazy at first with the broken record mantra of “litterbox, litterbox, litterbox” and the bunnies won’t understand why you keep walking behind them. (Don’t chase…just be an annoying stalker) As soon as they jump into the box, then back away. . Sometimes I would end up putting my bunny halfway in the box and allow her to jump in all the way and then quickly back away if she didn’t understand the first few days of “stalking”. Soon she realized she got “relief” from me walking behind her when she jumped into her litterbox, and so then she would just go straight there when I started herding her, and then it progressed where she understood just the word litterbox..
Some bunnies are quick learners. If I remembered right Rucy learned within a few days, but it took about a week or so of persistence with this to start letting it sink in.
I did make the mistake of trying to offer a treat once they got into the box and they just thought I was going to stalk them further, so instead as soon as they get into the box, it’s better to throw them a treat the moment they get in and then back away and relax.
After a while, I could just say the word litterbox, and my bunnies knew to go there.
(ing able to say litterbox about three times and my bunnies would go there (It took Rucy just a few days to learn that but most bunnies may take a week or so) The key is being persistent and understand they won’t get it right away.

“The moment that one of bunnies would head over to the corner and lift their tail, I said the word “litterbox” over and over while herding them back to the box. “
I do that now when I am herding Bells and Morls to bed and it really really works! As far as the bathroom habits behind the chair, both my guys were doing that in the corner of my dining room and I realized that it was because it was slightly hidden and closer than where I had placed their litterbox. What I did was get a cheap plastic ziploc container (the largest one they had) and filled it with a little bedding and hay and placed it near that area. Then I cleaned their marked spot with straight vinegar and then rewashed with soap and water to remove the smells and stains. It has really helped not entice them back and they are drawn to the nearby litterbox. Now they know where both litterboxes are and love having some options
Hope that helps!!
Great tips BellaNMorley!
