I’m calling around the rabbit vets to see who I think is best to spay Thumper and one person said they don’t use meds after the surgery, is this normal?

Unforunately, some rabbit vets do that. Mine did when I got Chacha spayed :-/ .. She was being taken care of at the vet for 2 straight days and she came home.

If I were to do that again, I would not have gone to that vet I did go to

I believe that pain medications do need to be given. Monkeybun said in another topic that the spay is exactly the same as a woman getting a hysterectomy, but it imagine not having pain medication.

Definitely demand pain meds, its in the bunny’s best interest if they have them. I hate seeing my buns in pain

Pain meds are a must!! Bunnies in pain will not eat, and it will only lead to more problems. Definitely demand those pain meds.

I just called to make my appointment and the receptionist that I talked to said that they actually do give medication and that the lady I talked to was the new girl lol!

Good grief. Sometimes vets have to wonder why they lose patients. This is unfortunate, but good that you were able to let the experienced person know. That new girl may not last. Glad you’ll be getting the pain meds after all.

Hey, if I had a dollar for every time I accidentally gave a customer erroneous info over the phone at my piddly retail job… I’d have a lot of dollars! (But of course in retail, the policies change about every 8 minutes… who can keep up with that?!)

Mistakes happen. Even the experienced staff can get so used to giving dog/cat surgery instructions, that they rattle those off to bunny owners and it’s not applicable at all. This is why it’s always good to go “up the chain”, just in case.

Let us know when you decide to spay!

That is true, I’m just glad they do give meds! Her appointment is on Thursday the 24th and she is staying over night :S It will be so weird without her

Being new is stressful – I’m sure she knows now. It’s good you called back and verified it with someone else.
