Hey guys I have three buns that I am going to bond! Now I have a few months but am trying to plan and get resources ready for their new condo. My two bunnies already have one made of nic cubes and I have made a couple of different ones now. I am going to remake it once they are bonded as a three and the current set up is too small. Once they are all bonded I do plan to have they free range depending on Koori’s behaviour after the spay, if she’s too destructive they will be locked in the condo whilst I’m at work, which is about 10 hours a day mon-fri. They will also have litter box in the condo. I have around 40-50 squares and have made muti levels with shelves before. How big should I make it do you think? Has anyone else got a condo that houses 3 buns that I could get some ideas from. I’ve looked at the habitat section but it doesn’t say how many buns its for and how long they stay in for.

I was think 2 squares by 3 for the base as that would fit the space I was thinking of using in my flat but how many levels up should I go and how should I arrange the shelves? I have 2 dwarf lops that are 1 and a half years old and love loafing around most of the time and a 4 month old lionlop who is pretty active still.

I don’t really have the space to attack a pen permanately and they do get around 2 hours exercise in the morning and around 5 in the evening. Thanks for any help people can give me and if anyone has pictures of condos for 3 buns that would be great.

I would go bigger than a 2×3 base with 3 bunnies sharing the space. 3×5 grids with at least 3 levels would be my minimum recommendation. Since they are confined for so much of the day, it’s going to be important that you go bigger.

I used to have a trio in a condo. The condo was two-levels of 2 by 5 grids. I used it for a while but found it too small. If your rabbits get much exercise in during their free-range time, it can work, but go longer than 3 grids.

You don’t need a pen when you’re home b/c they’ll be allowed out anyways, but if you can attach one when you are not home, that would be a great way to make sure they always have some space to move around.  When you’re not home, you’re not using the space in front of their pen anyways.  When you get home, you can fold up the pen and store it away until the next day.

I have two large bunnies in a 4 by 3 with two levels above the floor level. It’s an OK size for them. I think 3 would be a minimum I’d be willing to go, 2 NIC’s is just not wide enough and would be hard to work with.

This was my first condo I had for my trio. It was small so their new bond would be cemented. I chose the 2 by 5 size because I prefer longer and narrower (tunnel-like) as a shape personally,  but it depends on the person and also your size. I like Beka’s suggestion with the pen to attach to a condo, that would be ideal.

Great pics Petzy! I could see that working temporarily but not long-term with a trio.

Your right I’m not using the space! That could work. I haven’t had a problem before as all the buns usually do is sleep in the daytime and when they were younger they both had their own multilevel condo. I have measured and the biggest I could do without rearanging furniture (which I with do if needed) is 3 squares by 4. Height is only an issue for keeping the structure sturdy. They have free reign of the whole flat when I’m in and I used to keep my other buns out at night as thats when they were most active. I got used to sleeping through the noise of scrabbling bunny races! So far my new bunny Koori seems well-behaved but I don’t think shes sexually mature yet so I’m sure there will be naughtiness ahead which is why I am planning on keeping them caged until she proves she can be trusted! With a pen attached I won’t feel guilty at being caught up at work as well!
Thank you for the pics Petzy they are very helpful. Mine will also be a new bond (positive thinking even though their not bonded yet!) and was thinking of small shelves to fit one bunny so that Mizu and Umi can lie and sleep away from Koori if she’s being too hyper for them. They spend most of the time sleeping!

Ok hows about 3 floors of 2×4 and 1 floor or 2 floors of 2×2. The first level will be clear with litter tray, food ect. Second floor is half shelf (2 square by 2 square). Third floor is also half shelf on the opposite side. Fourth floor is L shaped with one square free to jump up. Possible fifth floor would be the same as fourth just with a different place to jump up. Every shelf would be supported by dowel rods and probably be carpeted as they are all litter trained and don’t eat carpet. This would be the set up when they were bonded with xpen attached.
Would it be ok to make it like this now and give Koori floors 3, 4 and pos 5 and Mizu and Umi floors 1 and 2. The way its planned I could easily block off the way up from 2 to 3.
That gives Mizu and Umi over 58ins by 28ins on the bottom floor to stretch out. They are aprox. 19ins long when they are pretending to be a pancake. (imagine their disgust when disturbed their snooze with the tape measure in my hands!) And they have the second floor which is half the size. Koori is 13ins long and will also have 58ins by 28ins and a little bit of a smaller shelf. To be honest its more room than they have at the moment but at the mo they are out most of the day, taking it in turns. (I’m a teacher on summer hols!)
Sorry if its hard to understand the plan. I have it all drawn out! Remember the plan is for them to be completely free range once Koori is trustworthy. Mizu and Umi were free range before Koori came along!
