        Hello fellow rabbit owners,

My male Lion Head rabbit was neutered last Tuesday. He is around 7-8 months. Before he got neutered he was just starting to spray and produce tterritorial poops. I was told that he would stop that behaviour after being neurted. However, when I let him out of his cage now he is still running circles around me, honking and spraying. I was told that spraying can become a habit, however he has only sprayed maybe a total of 10 times. Does that make it a habit? I am concerned he won’t stop this behaviour.

        Thanks,
        Brittany

Hey Brittany. Wick didn’t start spraying until the three days leading up to his neuter. Longest three days of my life. Whenever I’d see him start circling, I’d literally run, haha.

Wick had one spray following his neuter, but after that it has stopped, as well as the mate circling he had done the days prior as well. Some rabbits experience a hormonal spike following a neuter, which will sustain the matured behavior for sometimes as long as a month. Do your best to keep strong! Unfortunately I have no advice beyond waiting it out. I haven’t heard of males who spray after passing this spike.

Hormones dont instantly stop after surgery. Itll be about two months before his hormonal urges die down/stop
