At 16 months, can I even still get my rabbit fixed, or would it be a terribly traumatic experience for him?——- Yes, you can fix them at about any age. But, I DO NOT reccomend fixing an OLD rabbit(over 7 years) but that is just my personal feelings about it.
And does anyone know which pairing typically causes a smoother transition – bun and kitty, or a male and female pair of buns?——— I only have one bun right now, but some relatives are visiting and brought their 2 kittens. The kittens were more scared of the bun then the other way around, but it all really depends on your bun, and the animal you bring into your home.
Would I eventually be able to let both my bunnies out to play together unsupervised?——– YES! Their are some members on here with 7 bonded buns, so it is possible.
Would finding him a companion change his behavior?——- Again, it all depends. Your rabbit could find more courage when he has a partner, and want more love from you. OR, he will find more comfort in the new bun and rely on her/him for attention.
And if so, is it more likely to make him a little more brave and social, or more curious and troublesome?——– It’s hard to tell, especially since I don’t personally know your bunny.
And considering they wouldn’t be supervised 24/7, would getting a kitty companion be asking for trouble?——— Well, kittens on their own can cause a lot of trouble, knocking things over, getting in to stuff and so on, so until they are grown you need to be aware of that. I have 2 cats of my own, though they aren’t bonded to my bun. (The were gotten first.) But kittens are very curious.
Hopefully this helps!
