hello everyone! i guess you may do me a favor to determine the species. my friend recently adopted a bunny, which is unfamiliar to me. the baby has a hare-like look, with long ear and tan coat. i’ve never seen such a beautiful guy. he is so cute and tame, like to be touched.
Hi Lancy! Hope you don’t mind, I attached your picture here. He is an awesome looking bunny, that’s for sure!!!
Where did your friend get him from? He looks to be under 1 yr old, so often the ears look disproportionate to their bodies. Those ears alone do suggest Flemish Giant though…. Other breeds that have that hare-like body are the Tan & English spot but these also have specific colourings. Also Belgian Hare (rabbit breed not an actual hare). So that doesn’t really help! I’d say he’s a mix breed.
thanks jerseygirl! i just bother not able to post pics at first i also thought he might be a Belgian Hare, but, you know, it has less possibility in china. since now, i’ve never heard anyone here raise this breed. i pretty much agree with you that he is a mix breed, as he does not match any
He does have the racy like body but I think it’s more because he is young. The belgian hares have the reddish brown coats and very distinct body shape. Your rabbit is a bit of a mystery! You are located in China? Are pet rabbits popular there?
I think his breed is Belgian Hare as well. Gorgeous gorgeous rabbit. I don’t see Flemish Giant at all in him though. Was he from a breeder?
Wow… he has such a lovely face

not really… traditionally, rabbits were considered solely as source of meat and fur. things have been chenged recently, however, not all people treat rabbits in proper way. most bunnies live on veggies and carrots, no hay, no water. here is the myth: rabbit would die after drinking.
fortunately, there is increasing number of fanciers, who value bunnies as friends. i believe we are moving the right direction

no, he was living in a farm. there were 3 kittens but no one knows where were they from and who’s their parents. so, the pedigree remains uncertain. my friend took one and said: from nowhere, become somebody

thanks Lizzie! he at first reminded me the Alice’s adventure in Wonderland. but Alice is not a name for a boy. my firend named him Xiao AI ( similar pronounciation to: Sean Eye ). this name could be explaind in 3 ways: 1. little, cute, lovely; 2. Alice but for a boy; 3. Allen Iverson, for my favorite basketball player
He’s Gorgeous! Very unique look! His body reminds me of Olivia (she’s a bit tubsy here, it’s an older pic). She is exactly the same colour as him right now as she changes colour througout the year.
Oh my goodness Lancy, he is beautiful! he looks just like a toy rabbit! i’m not so good with breeds of rabbits, but he is definitely adorable whatever he is!

I was killed by Olivia’s eyes what a beauty ! she is so tender.
once i imagined what if Xiao AI changed color to white in winter? Lepus timidus?

Thanks, Katie
Max and Penny are dream team!
Here are a couple of breed pix. One is a Belgian Hare, the other (spotted one) is the Rhinelander – kind of a large version of an English Spot.
They all have similar body types, and I think it’s possible to have any of them a brown color.
Yes, Pam, they have something in common, the racy body. I just wonder the shape of his skull, it seems too narrow for any breeds. anyway, like Jersey said, Xiao AI is still too young that i am even not so sure about his gender. it’s hard to determine and maybe one day, he would show that he is she. Let’s see what will happen during his development. Surprise?
Rabbitpams own bun bun Sammy has (had?) this distict head shape but I’m not sure, it may be less so now she is growing up. I think it makes them look like supermodels. Speaking of…Olivia is a stunner LPT. I’ve only seen a couple pics of her but she always takes my breath.
Lancy – I’m still trying to get Xiao AI’s name right. So is it two distinct parts “Sean” & “Eye” or more like “Sh-or-n-eye” Like Shania Twain but with more of a “or” sound rather than “an” sound and dropping the “a” off the end also? Does that make sense?

oh, it’s really hard for people to learn chinese, i guess. the name, Xiao AI consists of 2 chinese characters, almost without connection when people say that. in addition, in chinese, there 4 tones, the first is even, like no feeling, the second is going up like you have a question, the 3rd is down and then up, the 4th is down. Xiao is 3rd tone and AI is the 4th.
so, i think an easy way for you to work out is, to find a chinese guy and ask him to read this for you:
Xiao (3rd tone) Ai (4th tone) .
you may suggest that, Xiao (3rd tone) is “little” and Ai (4th tone) is “love”
wish you succeed!
Haha! I actually understand that! I’m amazed! Thanks for the explanation.
Very cute and cool looking bunny! I am very bad with breeds so I won’t even try to guess lol

my friend will be 1 month out on vacation, so, i’m very glad to bunnysiter Xiao AI
hope the bonding between Xiao AI and Fluffy go well
I doubt it is my brain – you just explained it well.
You haven’t told us about Fluffy! I take it this is the lop bunny in the picture? I have to ask Lancy, when you mention “bonding” are you meaning breeding? Or just how Fluffy and Xiao AI will get along? First, I must tell you that BinkyBunny.com does not favour intentional breeding because of the over population of rabbits already in shelters.
If you meant you are looking to bond the rabbits while your friend is away, please be aware that bonded rabbits should then remain together for life. They actually grieve if one of the pair dies or is taken.
If you just meant how each will go with another rabbit in the household, then my apologies for all of the above.
I’ll have to write down the name and show it to my sis-in-law. She’s from Taiwan. She’s called Jessie here because her name is Jui Che, or J.C. for short, which became Jessie. I actually can pronounce her real name, which is sort of whuray chay, rhymes with May.
Jersey, I was thinking that Sammy’s little face was very small and pointy at first, and now she’s starting to fill out. That’s why I had those breed shots saved, since I was searching to figure out what she was too.
My bunny also had that kind of red racing stripe up his back when i first got him, but it all grew out and he is all gray now. So that might just be some left over baby fur, and then he’ll become all grey as he gets his “grown up” coat.

no, Jersey, you don’t need to apologize, but i should say thanks to you. here is the story:
i’m new to rabbits. actually, i adopted Fluffy 2 months ago, and he is my first bunny. poor Fluffy was bought, with another lop, to test some instruments. when it’s finished, no one care them. his partner was gone, due to shortage of food. they usually lived on a cabbage for a whole week! i guess Fluffy could survived just because he had been a fatty, though he was almost skeleton when i saw him. people were talking about “die mercy”, but i could not see any mercy from killing a healthy animal. i took him, with no experinces but some myths i heard before. those days ,when Fluffy and i just met each other, remind me of a part of my campus life: collecting materials, reading and taking exams in a short term. but this time, the exam was about life and death. thanks God, Fluffy’s getting better and better. at the begining, he was in really bad temper. i thought this was a result of the dark days he suffered . now, he allows me to groom him. he’s getting weight again, making me think of put him on diet, though he always beg something with his innocent eyes.
and, to be continued, i almost made a mistake, about “bonding”. i should not bond them together, since my friend will take Xiao AI back in weeks. fortunately, that process has not began yet and your information came just in time. thank you! i’ll keep them in different pens for sure. by the way, there won’t be breeding. once i thought to neuter Fluffy, but i just can’t find any vet in my city who is experinced with rabbits. i always got the similar feed back:
—– well, i’ve never desexed a rabbit, however, i would consider the same body weight of a dog or cat and …..
i won’t take the risk…

Good decision. They’re not like cats or dogs! It’s the anesthetic that they have to be particulalry careful with. We had a member earlier in the year that was trying to get her bunny vet care in China also. (I think it was there) From memory, she was a british citizen living there. I’ll see if I can find the info offered to her that may help you find good vet care. Even just for general care.
Edit: Here’s the link to thread I mentioned. https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/a…fault.aspx
Perhaps you could messge the member to get advice on finding a vet. I know China is a BIG place but she may have some tips.
dad is cleaning my pen, and i’m floping

hi, Pam, i believe Jessie would help you coz this is easy for herjust need to tell her what i wrote down here is Mandarin, as there are different PinYin systems (like the International phonetics for English speakers) in chinese.

oh, that’s possible! let see what kind of changes woulld happen to Xiao AI, when he become Lao AI ( Lao, the third tone, means aged in chinese, and also has respectful meaning in some cases. )
