New Rabbit Run! And questions

Hi! It’s been a while since I posted on here, I’ve had to move a couple of times but I’ve finally gotten settled. Unfortunately the place I’m living now doesn’t allow pets inside so I’m trying to make sure the bunnies have the best possible home outside. I’ve just finished and installed a new bunny run that I built with my dad! It’s attached to their hutch so that they can move between the two and they love it! It’s been fantastic for them being able to express natural behaviours like digging, chewing, running, foraging etc.

My question is actually about digging. Lately when they’re out in the run Boston and Poppy have been digging out of the run despite the bricks around the edges. I’m thinking I might add a tunnel in their favourite digging spot and having it as a sort of built in warren so they don’t feel the need to dig tunnels quite so much. Also it might just be in the way so they can’t dog out there anymore ahha. What do you think? Would it work? and do you have any ideas what sort of tunnel/where I could get one? I’m in Australia so sometimes it’s tricky to get things. I’m also on a budget :s

I’m thinking something similar to this so that I can make it do a loop around the run and go in one end and out the other

P.S. The whole courtyard is enclosed so if the bunnies do get out they’re contained and safe. The whole garden is safe for the bunnies (and they love to eat my plants :/)

P.P.S. Please no comments about the rabbits being outside, it’s not ideal but they’re nothing I can do about it. They’re healthy happy bunnies who are well cared for and well loved.

I also have outdoor rabbit in the summer, fall, and spring. (They come in in the winter). During the first year my two rabbits were always trying to dig out of the pen at the corner. Eventually they stopped and started digging a Warren. I recommend not installing a Warren because that would be very expemsive and your rabbits may not use it. They can build their own for free! You should keep filling in dig for escaping, but if they do not seem to be trying to escape let them dig and they might make their own tunnel. My rabbits starting digging down first when they were starting tunnels. Then they dug to the side and now we have many feet of rabbit tunnels in our back yard. Also, if your pen is not big enough they might want more room so they are escaping, how big is your rabbit run? Good luck with your digging rabbits!:-)

The rabbit run is 1.5m long and about 70cm deep. It’s made to fit into my garden bed which is the only dirt in my courtyard. I definitely want them to keep digging! I just worry about them getting out. I’m sure if they dug far enough they would get into my neighbours backyard which backs onto bushland. I was thinking of just putting a tunnel in the corner where they dig because the dirt is pretty soft and they dig under really quickly. At the moment I have a spare litter tray upside down in the spot they dig to try and stop them.

Maybe could make like a sandbox/digbox ontop of it? I have a large litterbox that I fill with yesterdays news and hay its basically a litter box but they cna also dig if they want
