Cocoa is about 6 years old. We’ve had her for 5 years. I got an x-pen for her pretty much right away after seeing her crammed in one of the “bunny cages” from the pet store. After checking out other pics here, I wanted to add a NIC area, but DH did not like the idea and came up with a simpler idea that I think will work better for her.

The new shelf is 48×18 inches (x-pen is 48×48). I used carpet stair treads for the top. They are stain resistant and cushioned. I put a few banana chips on top to intice her to jump up. This morning they were gone and she was laid out on top. So… I think she approves! The rug below is new too. It’s an all cotton rug from Big Lots.

I also found this for a new hay rack at Big Lots. It’s a wire storage basket turned on it’s side.

Please pardon her rear-end, she’s shedding like crazy! She does have more toys/chews, but I had taken them out when I cleaned/installed the shelf and hadn’t put them back in yet.

Very nice!! I bet she’ll love sleeping under the shelf as much as she’ll love jumping up on it.

Brittany – It’s a piece of plywood leftover from a project. I had my husband cut it to 18 inches wide. It was already 48 long. There are 2 dowel rods underneath for support. The longest I could find were 48 inches… so we screwed closet rod holders on the outside to hold them in place/make them long enough.

Looks great! What a lucky bunny!
I have a suggestion, I have found with my own guys and a similar set up, that some don’t feel comfortable jumping to and from the lino flooring, specially my older guys. For the I either made a small ramp, or placed some carpet that won’t slide, giving them a base to jump to and from.

Thanks Andi. I will definitely keep that in mind for the future. So far, she’s been up and down quite a few times. She slides a bit on landing, but turns around and jumps right back up.

That’s great! It’s good for buns to have something to jump up onto, IMO. Keeps their muscles strong. That’s one drawback of xpens, no vertical height.
