Hi Everyone! We just had a kinda Suprise litter from my beautiful little lady Snowflake. 7 beautiful healthy kits! We are now on day 11 Since their births. Snowflake has been such an amazing mom and feeds them regularly (she feeds them mostly when I come in the room for some reason, I snuggle her, she licks me like crazy then she hops right over and feeds them haha) They are plump little ones as she has done this sometimes 3x a day that I’ve witnessed, they are healthy and hydrated. We had one of the “Blue” kits open it’s eyes on Day 5 and also started walking around the box alot, has also escaped the box a few times and sleeps in the corner alone sometimes. We are wondering if this is normal? He/she is also the largest/Fattest of the bunch (and has a huge head haha) Today we just had a few more slowly opening there eyes a little bit which is awesome! I have found conflicting recommendations about what to feed the mom for veggies right now so I’ve been giving her premium first cut fresh hay that she loves, her wabbit food, fresh water daily, and for veggies I’ve been sticking with Romaine & Dandelion greens as some sites say cabbage, broccoli and all sorts of other greens are OK  while others say DO not feed that kind of greens. So I’m unsure what is a good mix. And also when/what to introduce to the babies food wise and when. Any input/a list of recommendations, or link to a trust site that gives the correct input would be very much appreciated! Thank you all in advance! : )

As a note before responding, discussion of intentional rabbit breeding is prohibited on these forums; however, we understand the pursuit for advice, especially if it is a surprise (i.e. non-intentional).

Unfortunately, due to this policy, the majority of BinkyBunny users are not experienced with taking care of a new mother and litter. I would recommend posting on RabbitsOnline, where you can get more catered advice from users with more relevant backgrounds.

I am one of the users who has no experience nor advice, but I wish you and your rabbits the best of health as they grow up!

Just to piggy-back on what Wick said, there are some resources here, under the “suprise litter” section, that might be helpful to you:

            Resources

Regarding mom, stick to her normal diet. Whatever greens she normally gets should be fine (romaine and dandelion sound great). I know lavender should be avoided in nursing does. I normally don’t feed any cabbage or broccoli to my buns as it can cause gas. Main thing with mom is to make sure she has plenty of hay, extra pellets, and water, which it sounds like you’ve got covered.

Cute babies and beautiful mom 🙂

Be sure to separate all the babies from each other at 12 weeks so you don’t end up with any more surprises! 😉
