Hi!  I’m new to the forum.  My question is whether anyone with a free-roaming bunny has had experience with getting new carpeting.  My husband and I would like to get wall-to-wall carpeting installed but are concerned that the off-gassing might be harmful to our little Spud.

Have you looked at low VOC carpet?

Thanks for responding!  I called Spud’s veterinarian, and he said that the fuzz that comes along with getting new carpeting is a bigger hazard than off-gassing.  So, if we vacuum frequently we should be okay.  Still, we’re going to do what you suggested and look into low VOC carpeting–just to be safe.  I think some places even have low VOC padding and adhesive, too.

Yes, I think it’s much more readily available now than it was in the past. And some good vacuuming after it is installed probably isn’t a bad idea either.

You can also open the windows frequently the first few weeks to be safe. New furniture and rugs is definitely something I can smell so it’s probably even more noticeable for the bunnies. That plus the chemicals that have no odor.
