So, I recently (as in last Tuesday) adopted a 7 week old lion head bunny! Yay me! He’s so beautiful- I love him!

After less than a week Marley (my bun) is not afraid to come up to me and eat treats out of my hand, but other than that he keeps his distance, aside from a few sniffs here and there. Of course I only pet him when he allows, if he backs away (usually), I just stop. He’s still pretty skittish, runs in his house when I come near when he’s in his cage and only really tolerates me petting him if he’s eating or laying down. I have done a ton of research, read hundreds of forums and watched hundreds of videos, so I know the taming process can be long, and is different for every bunny, but I was hoping to hear your stories!

How long did the process take for your bun to warm up to you enough to come up and say hello, ask for pets and things like that? My bun usually just avoids me unless I have treats and I know I must be patient but I just wanna love him!

I can’t wait until he is more comfortable!

Its pretty normal for rabbits to only like attention on their time. One of my bunnies hates attention aside from a few hours a month; one of mine loves to play but doesnt care much for pets; and my third loves to cuddle, get pets, snuggle, ect

we have a 9 month old lion head female named sunny bunny. we got her at 11 wks. I have 4 little girls who cnstantly want to mess with her. we first kept her in her cage all the time. it took about a month of constantly interacting with her for her to gain trust. she now lives in our playroom out of the cage as we litter trained her and bun proofed the room. she has her own box of toys and plays with the girls toys as well lol. she will run from my three daughters who insist on picking her up. but my 7 yr old (complete animal lover) and I can sit down in the room snap our fingers and she will bolt out from wherever she is for lovins. she will even give us kisses all over the face while making this cute chirp sound. giving them time pays off big time.

My bunny behaved similar to how you describe until he went through puberty. At about 4 1/2 months old, he had a pretty big personality change – all of a sudden he would come and sit on my lap, and just like a dog he would nudge or lick me whenever I took a break from petting him  Of course, that was also around the time he started peeing in my lap and humping my forearm……..

Fortunately, he was already scheduled to be neutered so he only behaved that way for about a week before his surgery. After the surgery, the bad behaviors went away (humping and lap-peeing), but he retained a lot of the friendliness. He’s not as super cuddly anymore, but he definitely loves attention and being petted, plus he no long struggles when I pick him up. At least some of it must be hormone-related, because I didn’t change anything in my behavior towards him, but all of a sudden he started liking me! Haha So that’s my story

I think you’re probably right about it being different for every bunny, but I hope yours warms up to you quickly! Lion heads are so cute ^^
