Im going to be bringing home my new bunny in a few weeks, once he is ready to be away from his mother, but Im a little concerned about the car ride home. its going to be a long car ride, its at least an hour and well I live near Phoenix, AZ and its scoarching hot. Im worried that it could get too hot in my car for him or that he wont get enough AC from the vents. Would it be too over kill to have a frozen water bottle wrapped in a towel ready for him just to be on the safe side?

It’s never overkill if you don’t end up needing it then you are just overprepared, nothing wrong with that!

My boyfriend drove me to get little Chacha bun. It was an hour and a half drive, and she was 7-8 weeks old as well .. She was super scared, but that is normal. She was very scared when she arrived at my house and I put her in her dog crate. I let her come out of the carrier on her own, as rabbits are naturally curious creatures.

I think that if you have AC in your car and it is going, it should be good enough for bunny. Are you bringing a carrier along? You could put in a small blanket (so that bunny doesn’t slip around in the carrier) along with a frozen water bottle for bunny to lean against.

When I brought home Powder he was in a carrier with slits on the sides and I brought a towel to put in it – he was fine… though there is a heat wave going on atm, so overkill is never a bad thing! But if your A/C in the car works well, you should be OK.

Welcome!! It’s never overkill is totally great advice

You could bring ice wrapped in blankets (hey make some cubes, put in ziplock, wrap in pillow case!) -I’d say as long as your bunny is in the car with you with AC on it should be fine

If your bringing bunny home in a cardboard carrier-make sure there are good slats in it or have a friend come so they can have the bunny in their lap for air flow.

Congrats!! Let us know how it goes-and we’d love to see pictures when you get your new addition home!

Thank you every one for your input I really appreciate it, its been a REALLY long time since I last had a rabbit and we lived in Northern CA then.

The AC in my car works well and if it was like only 90ish here I wouldn’t be so worried but when you live where it can get to 120 in the summer and the car can be hot for a person it makes me worried about the rabbit. I think that if I keep him up in the front seat with the vents on him with a towel and an ice pack of some kind, I’m thinking frozen water bottle will make the trip there and back better than a bag full of ice, he will be okay and wont get too stressed. He has a nice hard carrier with good ventilation so no worries there.

if you want to see a picture of him the icon to the left is one of him. He is a tri-color holland lop ^_^

I would just recommending keeping him at a comfortable temperature- what is comfortable to you should be comfortable to him. If the bunny is not used to AC or can’t get away from the ice bottle and AC vents in the car- the stress of riding in a car/leaving Mom- could send him into shock with an extreme temp change.
