well after quite a bit of time we’ve got the new bunny condo up! It’s our first attempt at an NIC condo. To make them feel at home we put their wooden condo in it so that they have something familiar. Since the two sets aren’t really on “friendly” terms yet we couldn’t house them together as we’d originally planned, so the new NIC cage is split into 2 halves. The each side is the same size except that the top level on the left half is longer. So far the 4 on the left haven’t realized they can get up to the top level, but the 2 on the other side are making good use of them. I’m sure it’ll be tweaked a bit still.

Wow very cool! I bet they are loving all the levels to jump to and from
I love the wooden condo in there too…I bet Tucker would love something like that.
Wow, that’s a fabulous cage! I have my cage split in half too but mine are stacked on top of each other. Not ideal for bunnies that don’t like to be lifted but luckily Digger understands he’s getting put on the floor and doesn’t struggle.
WOW!! That looks GREAT!! I love it
Hows all the rest of the pets liking the new house?
Oh the cats claimed the house immediately, they have favourite places to rest on each floor and gave you that “how dare you” look when you disturb them. They’re quite comfy. Dakota, well I think the poor dog has been through so much change in the last 6 months she’s not really sure what’s going on. She seems to like the new house though, the yard is nice and big so she can romp around it. Next pet-project is to build her a doghouse. Right now she’s standing on the loveseat, hanging over the back and looking out the front window.
Came downstairs this morning to find Keelie and Kylie had broken out of their condo, but the clips I have on the doors are just too small – I thought they were the right size but, alas, no. So the twins were wandering about the dining room when I got up. I have no idea how long they’d been out but I have found some poop in the hallway and a bit up the stairs to the 2nd floor, so they obviously did a bit of exploring while they were out – normally the bunnies are just allowed in the diningroom/livingroom areas when out. So one of today’s tasks – buy new binder clips!

The wooden condo they’ve had for a while now – maybe 2 years? It’s a packing crate that Scooter got some equipment in – I just put a shelf in, cut some access windows and a ramp up to the roof (and an access to it). I knew I had to keep it in the new condo, not only is it familar to them but they just love it. So far not one of the 4 on that side has realized they have access to another level above it though! I even put in a half-shelf to the side of it in case our little butterball Bailey has trouble getting up to the top of it and he won’t even go on that. Stubborn bun.
T&R – to be honest the idea of stacking them on top of each other never occured to me! Ours are used to have floor-level access to their cages though (they were in Xpens before) and I don’t think they’d take kindly to being lifted up to get in and out. Keelie and Kylie are still runing around right now (they just came to check out the laptop) but every now and then one or the other will head back to their condo for a bit to get some water or some hay.
The ultimate goal is still to get all 6 of them living happily together in one condo – at which point we’ll remove the partition from this one and they’ll have a whole bunch of space. Right now with their separate areas side-by-side they can see each other at least. What surprises me is how they don’t fight through the partition – they could easily poke and nip at each other if they wanted to. When they have out-time together they sure get into scuffles. But they can be side-by-side with a partition between them, and no problems. Hmph.
They’ve been binkying – Keelie is so funny to watch when she binkies. It’s so frantic and frenetic and afterwards she sits there panting with this look on her face like “what the heck just happened?!”

That is incredible!!
I like the little 4-bedroom apartment on the bottom, too! Haha. Nice work!
omg that looks like a bunny mansion! very cool!
wow, how long did it take you to build that? lol. I love it!
LOL Sounds like cats! heheh i bet Dakota loves the backyard! I definitely love the condo-it’s great!
awesome condo!
how many sets of nic cubes did it take?
Well there’s 72 panels – not sure how many come in a ‘normal set’ but if you know you could do the math. ![]()
Good job on making a duplex though! I’d never had thought of that myself…
The Target brand NIC panels come 23 to a box (at least they used to when they still made the 1 1/2″ square ones that I used for my condo).
An unexpected “problem” with the condo. Some of the leftover 2×2 wood that made the vertical poles and shelf supports was cut into 6-inch lengths to give the bunnies chew toys, which they love. Well, Aeryn has been using hers as a battering ram to force the cage door open! When we were still using the small clips to shut the doors, she managed to pop two of the three on the bottom panel, and we found the “ram” wedged in the opening that resulted. Which wasn’t big enough for any of them to get out, and she couldn’t force open the clip at the top of the door panel.
We have since moved to the larger clips, which are big enough that the bunnies can’t force open.
Aeryn is a very smart little critter, no? Too bad she’s dedicated her little bunny life to total bunny evil….
WOW, she is very smart you must be proud
Its so fun to read about these things and see how smart a rabbit really is. Like I knew they were smart but this might make her gifted![]()
Lets hope Aeryn & Maryann never hock up!!!
Maryann actually used her food bowl as the wedging device to push the bars apart enough to force herself through. The trouble I had was that when she finally wiggled through the cage, her kick out would push the bowl back, sending it back into the center of the area due to her kick and the ‘spring effect of the gate, so I had no idea how she was doing it. It was only by happenchance that I caught her in mid-escape one day and fixed the trouble in my security grid.
that’s awesome! great job! if you get all 6 bonded, that’d be so cool!
That must be the hay and food container on top of that condo out of buns reach
