New baby’s *home*

Very excited…I got a call from the woman at the pet shop by my work today and she said I can bring home my baby whenever I want now! I work tomorrow so I think I might stop by and then just bring the baby to work  I work in a very small boutique and I’m lucky if 3 couples walk thru the door so I’ll have plenty of time with it. (I really wish I knew whether it was a girl or boy at this point…)

For a boy I’m going back and forth between Samson or Morrison (leaning more towards Morrison I guess )
For a girl, my cousin just named his new puppy Willow, so after I finally decided on that, its out So now I have to think more..maybe Coco? Some kind of spice..?

But my question is…
I made a smaller “condo” a few inches away from Marlee’s for the new baby. Should I keep them seperated until I find out the sex of the baby and get it fixed/spayed? Or can they meet and hang out supervised if they get along as well as they did during the first meeting?

Nutmeg! Omg.. that might be it.. ha. I thought of that before I named Marlee and forgot how much I liked it for a name.

or even just Meg. She is MEGa cute by the way. tehe What about Sienna? Not a spice but a reference to colour… I had chickens named Saffron and Sienna once. I can’t recall if Marlee is spayed yet. Just super supervised time together should be ok. How old is this one? So exciting bringing newbie home.

Oooh, Sienna’s good too. I was kinda thinking I might stick with another human name since Marlee was named after someone. Yeah, I just had Marlee spayed about a month ago..so they could be alone together..but should I try to bond them before the new one’s fixing? This one is 7 weeks I believe?

Oh, ok then. Some have done this. It just means when the young one hits puberty, the bond may be challenged and you have to separate then rebond. This mightn’t happen though so it’s up to you. Post op the bunny may have to be separated from the other, so if they bond before – keep that in mind. You may have to house them really close during that time so they don’t miss each other too much. But certainly, play time together would be ok at the moment – just watch for excessive mounting and headmounting.

So…I have the baby home now. Marlee chinned me like crazy when she found out I had the new baby’s scent on me. Baby’s head is still so little though it could fit through the tiny squares to Marlee’s cage. So I have to put the xpen around the baby’s cage so Marlee doesn’t lunge at her and it also discourages baby from sticking its head through. I’m scared it’s gonna get stuck and choke :/

Should I just keep them side by side for a few days before bonding or start right away?

I like Nutmeg, which can be for either gender. Nickname could be Nutty Meg. What a cutie pie.
I think keeping them side by side is actually a slow start to the bonding. Have you decided on neutral territory for them to start in? (bathroom or tub? Hallway?)
One month past neuter is safe, but only just. If you feel you want to wait a little longer it won’t do any harm. Of course, if it turns out to be 2 girls it won’t matter LOL! Also a little boy who hasn’t reached puberty yet is a bit safer as well, but you never know when boys become men.

Well, I think Marlee is giving me the cold shoulder. Everytime I try to talk to her, give her a raisin, or anything she turns around and just leaves her butt facing me. She even tried biting me (luckily not very hard) when I reached towards her.  So I can take them to a neutral territory as soon as I can catch Marlee.

Baby’s doing good though. Drinking a ton of water…like non-stop. So I was looking up names that mean water..lol

Sounds like Marlee is jealous! She probably doesn’t want to share you with anyone I myself generally don’t start bonding until both of the bunnies are fixed, just because I don’t want to have to re-bond after the neutering, or when the baby grows up and challenges the bond, but I would say it is up to you, as long as they are closely supervised since your little baby is so tiny – (and so cute!)
