My sisters bunnies had babies, we moved the babies and all of the pulled nest hair into the cage. The mommy bunny is acting like she doesn’t know where her babies are, she keeps going to where the nest was in keeps looking for them . We put the cage over where the nest was originally, but the mom keeps going and eating all of the hair from the nest ( The babies are sleeping amongst all of the hair) isn’t the hair very important for the babies ? She eats big clumps of it at a time, along with the parts of the carpet that she has ripped up. Why is she doing that? I have searched the Internet but I cannot find anything on this topic. I only find things about when they pull their hair because they’re preparing for the babies .

Perhaps it’s a stress reaction?? It’s the only thing I can think of atm.

You could try moving the nest back to where it was and see if that helps. Had she built it in an area where it was hidden away? If it’s not practical to move the nest back, could you cover the cage with a sheet to make it feel more enclosed?
Is she getting unlimited food at the moment? And plenty of hay? The increased protein is important for pregnant & nursing rabbits.

How long ago did she have the babies? I do wonder if she has some discomfort – either in the gut or uterus. If it was very recent that she had them, there might be another she hasn’t birthed yet.
