Neutured bunny’s behaviour changed since I am pregnant

My neutured bunny of almost 3 years has been litter trained and never peed outside of his litter tray. Since the last few weeks his behaviour has changed. First of all he is peeing in different places in his cage as well in his litter tray. When I need to comb him (which he always disliked) he starts weeing on the spot but also a bit of spraying. He never has been a bunny that likes to be petted. He always comes running to me for food only and when he has his treat he runs away again. However now he comes over frequently and wants to be petted and can’t get enough of it. The peeing concerns me though. He is eating and drinking normally and is as active as before. Nothing has changed in the house. The only thing that has changed is me being pregnant. Does someone know what the reason might be that he is peeing at random places now in his cage? His cage is always open and his food, water and litter tray are in there. He likes to sleep there but often he prefers to roam about and relax in the living room instead. So he always will go back in his cage to pee. You think me being pregnant has caused this change in him?

It’d be really interesting if your pregnancy has triggered this! Though not for you of course. Neutered rabbits can detect other hormonal rabbits and react accordingly so I wonder if that’s the case here?!

Is the urine clear? I wonder if pregnancy aside, something else is bothering him. Wick gets more affectionate with me when his teeth are bothering him, in addition to him peeing more. It’s not spraying though. I would continue to monitor and if things get worse or if it becomes concerning, a vet visit would not hurt.

When I was pregnant my cat went crazy. He would get in my face all the time and want to rub his teeth on my face and chew on my hair and be all over me constantly. It was like the hormones were catnip to him. None of my other pets did this, and within days of giving birth he stopped completely and started acting normal again. It lasted my entire pregnancy though and drove me crazy. I talked to a bunch of other people about it and plenty had stories of different pets just acting really out of character during their pregnancies. I would not be surprised if your bunny could smell your elevated hormones. Hopefully it doesn’t last your whole pregnancy like it did for me!

Just to let you know that I went to the vet today with Ché. His urine was checked and everything looked ok. The vet doesn’t know what is causing this and will talk tomorrow to a bunny specialist. He thinks it might be a behavioural issue and not a health issue. I will keep a close eye on him though to be sure that he is ok.
