My male rabbit Jaylan is about 5 months old. Please could you tell me what the benefits of getting him neutered are?

He is a house rabbit, and he is now fully litter trained without any problems, (which i was very pleased with as i’d read  lot about being unable to litter train until after neutering, but Jaylan has shown it can be done) he is a lovely playful character with lots of energy. He doesn’t like to be picked up, put likes being stroked. He’s not aggressive and doesn’t bite, but he has developed a habit of nibbling at clothes and furnature!

I don’t want his personality to change, i know its natural for rabbits to want to nibble, but would neutering him help improve his nibbling problems?

        Thank you for your help

I have noticed a pleasant change in my 7 month old bun since his neuter. He was never ever agressive before and was fully litter trained, but after neutering he became much friendlier and more outgoing. I’m sure others will be able to give you wonderful reasons to neuter, but I wanted to chime in and say don’t worry about behavioral changes. The changes will be subtle, but they will be positive for you and the bun.

Benefit from neuter is to reduce from getting cancers and reduce the sexual behaviors to your fur-friends or you.

It’s worth it. I have neutered male bunny and he was behaving good expect chewing on everything (that’s normal for all bunnies anyway)

My bunny, Valen is neutered. He is still as sweet as he was the day I got him. He is litter trained and still very playful and gives kisses

Also, he is only 5 months! He may not be aggressive or destructive now, but I know people whose boys started to spray and hump at older ages but were sweethearts before.

The main benefit I noticed after having my boy bun neutered was that he lost his desire to “mark” his territory – namely, my bed! As soon as he hit five to six months old, he started peeing on furniture, when he had been litter trained since the day I got him. After the surgery, he stopped doing this. (Yay!)

                      Benefits:

                      1) Longer life

                      2) Decreased risk of cancer

                      3) Better toilet habits

                      4) Reduction in Aggression

                      5) Reduction in bad behaviors-like chewing, nipping, territorialness etc.

                      6) NO possibility of contributing to the over population (you may not always be a single bun mom!)

Also the way I think about it-if you leave them in tact, they are going to have natural urges, and no way to let those out; That’s a terrible way to live -wanting to mate and not getting to.

                      To Neuter is Cuter!
