Hi guys, I’m just curious.  How does it work out if you try to bond a neutered male with an “intact” female? I’m not sure of her age yet, but I’m just wondering if it would work at all..

Usually it doesn’t work out well at all. Bonding should really only take place with two spayed/neutered rabbits. Hormones make a rabbit unpredictable which can be very dangerous.

MoveDiagonally is right. Bonding with intact bunnies isn’t a good idea. Also, you will want to get the female spayed anyway, otherwise she will have an above 85% chance of developing reproductive cancer early in life.

Bonding with intact bunnies can lead to aggression, territorial behavior and the risk of injury increases. Being in such close contact with a male is also likely to spark a false pregnancy, even if he is neutered. And, as Hazel says, females have a super high risk of reproductive cancer if left intact. And if you get her spayed later on, you’ll have to separate to let her heal and her scent may change, which will mean rebonding them. It’s just easier/safer to wait until both are altered.

AND WARNING: If the male was neutered less than a month ago, he still has viable sperm and can impregnate her.
