         Hey all,

My rabbit went under anesthesia yesterday for dental work and today he seems kinds skittish.  He looks to be breathing a little faster than usual and just seems nervous and on edge.

Otherwise, he is fine – eating, going to the bathroom, and being affectionate.

I am a worry-wort about my pets naturally, so I am wondering of this behavior is typical after surgery or if I should be concerned?

Will your bunny calm down at all?  Try keeping the area quiet and as normal as possible.  Has the rabbit undergone anesthesia before for dental issues?  If the bunny is still acting abnormally- you should call your vet and tell them.

He has undergone anesthia before and was groggy, but not really nervous.  But he is a nervous bunny to begin with.  And if both my mom and I are gone / away from him for more than a few hours, he gets very needy (and we did have to leave him at the vet for most of the day).

He is still eating and doing all his normal activty, he just seems more needy.  Even this morning, he just wanted to be kissed and petted more than usual.  But he does seem less nervous.

My guess is that he doesn’t ike it when you leave him somewhere else. So he’s just wanting to be reassured that you are still his family and that you won’t get rid of him.

Has his breathing calmed down by now?
I find that vets are always available to have their staff answer any questions or concerns you may have. A post surgical phone call to the office is very OK, and you might want to touch base tomorrow (if it’s after hours by now) and just inform them of his demeanor and ask if that is normal. You can ask what you should expect in the next few days also.

his breathing has returned to normal… now he is just being affectionate and wanting lots of TLC.

                    Thanks for all the support!!!

That’s good news. I bet he’s fine today.
