        Hi Everyone!

Alright, so here’s the scoop. In a month school is over and I’ll be moving into the house I’ll be living in for the summer. Right now Hemi just has his cage and free roam of the room. Very cramped living space. However, my room in the house will be slightly bigger and only have me, instead of two people, living in it. I’ve looked at all the habitat ideas on the BUNNY INFO pages and I’m having trouble deciding what to do.

I’m weary about transfering completely to a NIC condo, because once school starts up again Hemi will be back to a majority of his time when I’m gone and at night in a cage (though I’m getting him a bigger one).  This is the cage he’ll be living in when school starts again, the demensions are 45.25″L x 17.5″W x 32.5″H. Fairly large cage for a 2.5lb bun. And he’ll have an xpen attached to it. But I didn’t plan on buying it until it got closer to August.

I’m looking for something that I can build an adequate amount of space for him but still have some storage for some of my stuff and his “bunny bins” (bins/baskets that hold his litter, food, toys, treats, etc) and not take up my entire room. Which is why I really liked the cube ideas. My worry is if they’re sturdy enough (I’ll definitely look into reinforcing them), and if it’s fairly easy to disassemble. I want to start planning now that way I can work it into my budget for next month.

Is it possible that he’ll be ok going from an NIC back to the cage and xpen? I just don’t want an unhappy bun on my hands… And I don’t want to stress him out too much.

Suggestions and opinions would be awesome!

        Thanks a million, ~Meagan

You could use the cubes to build just a pen area – it will be easy to set up and easy to take down (or even travel with, if necessary). Also, since it sounds like you plan to get an xpen at some point anyway, you could just get that now and use it for the summer.

I would just get the xpen and cage now and use that. There’s no point in spending money on a condo and building supplies (total cost about 75-100), and then buying an entirely new habitat in a couple months.

I would continue to use the cage for his main activities; food, water, litter pan, sleep area, but attach an xpen to the side with the opening and have it open onto the xpen. They come with doors, and can fold up for transporting and set up again elsewhere. Also, you can reshape them as needed. It would be worth the investment of $80 or less. Then if you need to go somewhere temporarily in a few years, you can leave the cage at home, fold and unfold the pen and just use it by itself on other occasions.

Thanks for all your input! I think I am just going to get the bigger cage and then have an xpen. I’m sure he’s going to enjoy the bigger cage and the xpen as long as I get him something to climb on.

                Thanks again!

This will be moved to the habitat section soon.

Sorry about that! I realized as soon as I posted that I posted in the wrong section. Thanks!

Not a problem, people don’t always realize there are different sections for different topics. Sounds like a good plan you have. Feel free to post pics when it’s all put together if you want!
