I recently adopted a year old mini rex. She is a little over a year old and I was told she was potty trained. When I brought her home she didn’t make any messes outside of her cage. Within three days shes peed three times on the carpet and made little dropplings occasionally. Maybe 4 in the past 3 days. She seemed like she was doing so well and it’s just getting worse. She is out of her cage for about 6 hours a day.

welcome here! it sounds like she’s marking her new territory. you can limit her space to a smaller area surrounding her cage or pen until she becomes more consistent with the litterbox. the marking may last a few weeks, but as she becomes comfortable, those good habits will return. are there other animals in the house, and is she spayed already?

A lot of rabbits have breaks in their good litter habits when they experience a change of environment. Like Beka recommended, I’d keep her in a limited space until she settles a little and her habits are squared away.

I would also recommend taking her to the vet for a general check up and to see if she’s been altered if you can’t ask the previous owner about it.

there is sometimes not a way to find out if they have been altered unless the vet goes in. i think in most cases if you’re not sure if they have been, they are not. usually this is something that the person would mention. i agree with digxmexnow… ask the previous owners or shelter if she was spayed, get documentation if possible or get name, address, phone number from the vet who did the surgery. i’d also ask the last time she was seen for a check-up. do you know approximately how old she is?

I plan on bringing her to a vet soon because her nails are long and I’m too afraid to cut them myself yet. I will talk to him then and ask if she was spayed. The previous owner told me she is a little over a year old, and that he wasn’t sure if she was spayes, but has never gotten a period. She was bought at PetCo which advertises their animals are spayed, so I’m assuming she is. She’s gotten much better about marking her terriory. She did pee on the couch once, I guess that’s now officially her couch. lol she also likes to leave MOUNDS of poop by where we store our shoes? weird but easy to clean so not a huge deal. Other than that, as the days go on shes getting much butter. She has also gotten such a playful personality, were very pleased

rabbits are induced ovulators (meaning: they only ovulate when they are mated with by a male), so they don’t go into heat or get a period like other mammals.

if she was spayed young and then sold in a petstore she *should* have a small tattoo inside one of her ears. i could be wrong, but i think one dot is for neutered male, two dots for spayed female (or the other way around… lol!)
