› Forum › HABITATS AND TOYS › need help with bunny setup!
i have been changing my bunnys setup a lot and i can’t find one thats big enough for them and i know i shouldn’t change it to much or they might get stresed out. but right now i am the one streseed out. right now i am about ready to through my bed out of the window so they will have more room! my bed is the thing that is taking up all my space. i have gone through many diffrent setups and none provide enough space for them! i need help with were to put every thing. i am about to move into our camper and let my buns have my whole room but i know my mom wouldn’t let me. i know it is going ot be hard to help me do anything by these pics, but do you guys have any ideas to make them have more space without taking up floor space? i was thinking i could put a two foot deep shelf around my room and conect nic cubs to it and make it go around the top of my room. and then make it come down some how into a thing on the floor. but idk if that will work.
here are some pics on how small my room is.
i just told my mom and dad about how i felt about my room and they said. ” thats why bunnys are supposed to be out side” but i tried to tell them that it was that they were taking up to much space it was that I was taking up to much space.. uhhhh i don’t know what to do.
Do what I did – cage yourself in!
Oh and there is a gate in the doorway, you can’t see it.
Mocha, your room is so beautiful! You have nice habitats for your rabbits, I love the wooden closet hutch thing as well as the xpen. You also have an outdoor playground for them. And the garage and the patio sometimes. It is really fine! For their supervised run time in your room you could allow them under your bed maybe,to create more space, if your bed is off the ground, hard to tell by the pictures. But you’d want to keep it very clean in case they leave some droppings under there.
Don’t push the issue too much with your parents, I really think they have been fantastic toward the rabbits by letting Lulu come inside and the spay too, the bonding help… . I often wish for a better setup myself; each habitat has its drawbacks: mine often makes me feel like it isn’t good enough because my buns are in the basement. I wish I had a bright room like yours for mine, but I have four and they are so noisy and keep me up at night.
Your setup is splendid!
Moonlight_Wolf : i was actally thinking of doing that once they are bonded but sadly they arn’t bonded yet. it seems like they never will be.
Petzy: you think it is a good setup? the thing is, is somtimes i am not home to let them out every day, so i wanted a setup that if i didn’t get to that day they would still be able to run around. but i guess i am just going to have to wait till they are bonded. ( if they ever do get bonded)
yes, they will bond, if you give it patience and time. It’s Ok, if they don’t get let out for a day sometimes. It’s life. It happens. I bet your rabbits love their setups!
sotimes whe lulu gets her hyper sperts she will dash around her cage and jump over her litter box.
Think of it this way: ideally, you as a human should get a certain amount of exercise per day, sometimes you don’t. But you do your best. Same with the rabbits, it isn’t going to hurt them if a day of exercise gets skipped once in a while. It is like with the veggies, you are supposed to give them a certain variety daily but sometimes you are out of a type of veggie. It is not the end of the world. If I were you, I would be happy with the way things are and show your parents that you are. Then they are most likely to continue to approve of the rabbits living in your room. If you start asking for too much — you may create trouble for your bunnies as your parents may feel that they should go back outside.
yes… i know i just want the best for them. and soon very soon they will be togathere and have the whole room to there selfs. i need to work on my patience.
Yes! Patience!
i am not sure why its so hard for me. hehe. i have never been good at that though.
i know how you feel! my buns take up my entire room and are pretty much stuck in here due to dogs and other animals in the household. Your setup looks great and it looks like your buns have enough room. However, it might be nice to set up the Xpen outside once in awhile or maybe let each of them loose in a bunny safe room or two xpens connected to give them a nice change of scenery and a place to binky! I try to get Sully out as much as possible, since I know he loves the sunshine and grass. I also am waiting to bond my two bunnies and will hopefully have them free range in my room once I rearrange some furniture. I hopefully will be switching into a bigger room once that time comes. But until then, I know I am doing the best I can for my bunnies and as far as I can tell, they are happy as can be! I know yours probably are too!
I completly agree with Petzy! Your setup is very nice! I love the cage/cabinet thing you have! I want to build one for my bunnies. I also agree with SullysMum. You could attach some xpens and let them run. Either way, don’t stress about it! There are so many bunnies out there that would love the setup your buns have. I know mine would love that nice cage thing you have!
If you feel they are getting bored or just not stimulated enough, try switching out some toys. I have heard great things about the bunny mazes.
yes i have just made a toy form here. https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aff/4/aft/110163/afv/topic/Default.aspx

I know how you feel. I can’t put my bunnies together right now either as they are both too young to be altered. Baxter gets neutered in a few weeks (hopefully he’ll be old enough). I want the same thing you do. For my bunnies to bond and be free roam. I drive myself crazy over it too! I honestly think your bunnies are very lucky to have you taking care of them. They will bond and be free roam some day. Just like mine will.
thank you nibbles!
Your set-up looks great! Like Petzy said, it’s understandable if sometimes they don’t get out, the important thing is that they are not cramped into little petstore cages with no space to move around.
One thing I would suggest (and I want to do the same thing!) is make a wood platform, maybe about a foot high and 4 feet wide by 1 foot deep, to give a little vertical space in the xpen. If you can make something as beautiful as that rabbit cabinet, a simple platform would be very simple!
i would love to. but. lulu can jump over a two feet cage so i can’t cuz i thought about that but i can’t. i know i could put a sheet over it but then i would have to take it off every time i open the door. hmmmm…….. i maybe i could put the sheet over half of it? maybe that will work.
I’ve seen people make a floor for the xpens. You can see the wood under them and then they are framed with trim pieces around the wood. Did I explain that right? LOL The xpen fits perfectly inside the trim pieces. I always picture it flipped over. You know, like a lid instead of a floor. You could cut a slot out of the trim piece that would go in from of the door so your bunny would have no way to jump out and you wouldn’t have to take the top off to open the door. In the great habitats section someone has that floor on thier xpen.
Ahh I love your room. I would attatch that xpen to the wooden cage once they are fully bonded. You can make a cube door like I did for the 3rd story to make sure no one falls out – it’s perfect.
I’ve tried the sheet roof method…it doesn’t work well lol…
Sheet roof fail….
Here is my suicide bunny gate. Makes sure no one falls out and holds in the little baby for now until I pick up the xpen for him. I have a plank of wood over the hole so no one can get out or in. Bee’s been trying to fit her fat head through but can’t figure out why she can’t get into the 3rd story.
aww he looks so cute up there! *snuggles*
Oh, and not everybunny is adventurous as Indy is Lins A sheet may do fine for mocha’s buns for now.
True – Indy was just dead set on getting out. He loved zipping around my room too much. Just depends on the bunbun

This is an interesting thought! Could you make a square 4×4 foot wood frame and then staple some leftover wire (from the bunny cabinet) to make a lid? That would be very easy! You’d just be able to lift it off when going in to clean!
Would be more cost effective too
i don’t have any wire left over from that but i do have some left over from there old playpen out side. would it work even though it has wider holes?
Or just get another piece of wire. Wouldn’t be too expensive for that small of a size.
Usually the wire producs come in rolls and you can’t just buy a small piece. If it is for a top, wider holes should be OK.
ok.
If the holes are very big you could use a piece of your fencing wire folded over, so to stagger the openings; you would need a piece of wire twice as long as the length of the top of the pen then.
no they are only as big as a quarter.
that’s fine for a lid to fit an xpen.
but i am thinking if they are almost bonded i will just wait.
for sure
