Need Help setting up a baby bunny’s cage

We are having a trial run with a baby bunny over the weekend. His name is Flurry and he is 3 months old. Dizzie was ok having him in her home, so I wanted to keep him over the weekend so we can see how things go and hopefully adopt him! He is already neutered, but at night and when I am not right there, I want to have a place to put Flurry. I’ve never had a baby, so I want to make sure the cage setup is ok. Any ideas of what I should do? If they interact and are fine, should I put him in the cage in Dizzie’s room at night so they cant necessarily get at each other, but still be together? or should i put Flurry in a seperate room while we sleep? Any ideas and thoughts will help

I’m not sure I’d put the baby’s cage in Dizzie’s room yet overnight…until I was sure it wasn’t causing either bun stress to be near each other for extended periods of time. We had our baby bun fenced off from Baxter and the rest of the house for a couple months to protect him…but I should have used 2 fences…as Baxter nipped at the baby through the single fence 🙁 But our Baxter was surprisingly aggressive towards the baby…so we had to be extra cautious.

That sounds good! Thank you for the advice! Here is my new plan…. I’m going to have the two together, when I am in the room, as long as they are being nice to each other. If I leave the room, Flurry will go in his little pen in another room. (I dont want fights when I’m not there to stop it.) At night, I am going to have Flurry’s pen in my room so I know he’s ok and Dizzie will be in her room.
Flurry’s pen is bottomless…any ideas as to what o put on the floor? I will have a litterbox and i can put a plastic tablecloth down….

I would definitely read up on bonding before putting them together for any unsupervised time. Generally speaking you start in a neutral area (one new to both bunnies), semi neutral area (one uncommon for both bunnies), and then non neutral territory (Dizzie’s area). I think what would worry me is that even though he’s neutered Flurry is still very much a baby and his personality is likely still forming. I’d worry even if they appear bonded that they could possible get into a kerfluffle later on. But I’m not an expert on bonding by any means.

As for living situation. I would keep them in the same general area but far enough apart that they can’t “get at each other”. It’s good for them to see, smell, and hear each other without being able to fight. I would put something down, like the tablecloth, just in case he has an accident.

For my bunnies I use fleese at the bottom of the cage. You can leave the new bunny in the sane room at night. When bonding rabbits people say it is a good idea to put there cages next to each other so they get used to each other. Just make sure there is a 3-5 inch gap between the cages so they can’t fight through te bars. If it really seeks to be stressing them you can separate them but it’s fine to keep them in the same room.
