I just talked to the lady that we got Frosty from this morning.  She breeds and shows Jersey Woolies & Lionheads.

She told me this morning that one of her female Woolies has stopped eating and there’s blood in her urine.  We have absolutely NO rabbit savy vets in my area and she mentioned that she’ll probably end up taking her to her livestock vet, which could probably only tell her what might be wrong but not have the knowledge as to what medicines, if any, to administer.

Have any of you had this happen to your bunn, and if so, what meds did you have to give them to help them get well ?  Please keep in mind, we have abolutely NO rabbit savy vets around here !!!  Very difficult to take excellent care of our Lagomorphs if something happens !

We might end up taking her if there’s something we can do to help it get well because she’s not in good financial health right now to rack up a huge vet bill (she just had some major homeowner issues happen this past week that took up most of her savings to get it fixed)……especially to a vet who doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about !

Thanks for any and all help you might be able to give.

Have you “googled” this? You might send an email to Dana Krempels. You can find her on http://www.allexperts.com She’s pretty quick to respond.

From what I’ve read it’s pretty impossible to tell there is blood in their urine…Is the urine red or is there red in the urine?

I betcha katnipcrazy could help, I think she’s on here right now…

There are so many possible issues.  First thing would be to try to determine in there really is blood in the urine or if it just looks bloody. Although if she is a breeder I would imagine that she would be used to the weird colors of urine that bunnies can produce.

The fact that she is not eating is very concerning.  Her teeth should be checked- front teeth and molars.  Even if it is not a rabbit savvy vet- if she has stopped eating and drinking there are things that they can do to help- Sub cutaneous fluids under the skin will help.  If her abdomen is tender to the touch that indicates there could be gut or bladder issues.  An x-ray usually shows a stone pretty well and even gass patterns in the gut.  It is really hard to recommend anything without having an idea of what is wrong with bunny.

Keep her warm, try to get her to drink water, offer any food- try canned pumpkin.  But even vet that typically does not see rabbits could make a difference with fluids SQ, and consulting a textbook.  Does the bunny have a fever?  Any idea what could have caused this?  any changes in shelter, food?

Blood in the urine is streaky red, not uniformly red (or whatever other color comes out) Since she is a breeding rabbit and not spayed, could be cancer. I hope it is not untreatable.
