NEED help! Destructive bunny issues!

My mini lop Floyd has this favorite spot that is a corner formed by my bed and nightstand in my bedroom. Recently, he has become extremely destructive on the carpet in that particular spot. He’s actually picked a chunk of the carpet bald (EEK! I live in an apartment! Hope the pet deposit will cover it? ). I have tried putting down a rug with a rubber bottom over that spot, but he’s actually FLIPPED the entire thing and thrown it a foot away from the spot he likes to chew and dig on, or just bunches up the rug by pushing it in so that he can gain carpet access. So, the rug has not helped. He seems to find a way to move bigger/heavier objects off the rug so he can determinedly truck on forward and destroy to his heart’s content. He doesn’t pay much attention to toys that I give him in an effort to distract him from this place. I got him fixed about a month ago, and was hoping that his aggressive/destructive tendencies would decline after the procedure. Now they simply seem to be flaming like someone threw gasoline on a fire. What on earth can I do to stop this? This is becoming immensely frustrating, and I’m already extremely concerned about how to resolve the bald apartment carpet spot issue..

If it’s just one particular spot – then I would cover it with something he can’t move – such as a 12″ ceramic tile. if it’s a larger area – then cover it with an area rug?

If that doesn’t work -you may just have to cut off that area from your bun.

I feel your pain – my buns LOVE to chew, and no matter how many chew toys I give them, they still seem to prefer chewing on carpets, furniture, cords etc.

I think BnB’s mom made the best suggestion, put something that he can’t move on top of that space. I know it’s annoying but hopefully it will do the trick, and only be for the short term. I (& I’m sure we all do) know your frustration, that’s why bunny’s are cute! So we can’t stay angry at them. Seriously, my Henry is gonna be the end of me, but I tolerate his bad behaviour in a way I would never from any of my children and dogs, cause he’s not as bright (though I reckon he is, he’s just playing me???? doh!) and I take into account a lot of his behaviour is just natural to being a rabbit and it can’t be changed. I chose to have him – so now I’m stuck with him, dam! ha ha ha….
Like I said – good thing Henry is soooooo cute! I bet Floyd gets an 11 out 10 for the cutie factor and that will (eventually) outweigh his naughtiness. As the weeks, months go by he should settle? Henry is 9 months old (still a baby) and he has gotten a little better, so there is hope. Good luck! & all the best. Cheers, Henry’s mum.
