        Hey all,

Backstory: I raised Gus from a baby, he is three and has been a solo bun most of his life. We had a failed bonding attempt with a “try it out, if it doesn’t work, bring her back” bunny shelter when he was two. A few months ago, I impulse brought two female rabbits home. Since then, Gus has been acting out and doing things he hasn’t done since he was a little guy: chewing baseboards, peeing on the bed, that kinda thing. He seems insanely jealous of the other buns, running over and demanding pets when one of them gets some, running around when they are fed first (I feed all at the same time).

I am quite suddenly moving across the country and need to rehome one bun. I’m having a hard time picking between the girls, and know that ultimately if I decide to keep one of them, she needs to be kept as the best possible candidate for a friend of Gus. Finances have always been an issue, and I think that is important to note as I am not capable of affording emergency care for two rabbits at this moment in time.

Looking for opinions on the following questions given this context:

        1. Is it possible Gus would be happiest on his own, and that him acting out is due to him wanting to be on his own?
        2. Would the best decision be to rehome both, unbonded, girls?
        3. If I keep one girl, how do I decide which one to keep and which one to rehome?

One girl bun is a REW, and I just know she will be tough to rehome. A local shelter has a program where they list the bunny on their sites but you house them until they find a home for them, this is what I plan on doing, and all things considered I feel as though Marnie is going to be much easier to find a home for as she is by society’s definition “cuter”.

        Any and all opinions welcome.

Gus is acting up because his territory has been invaded. This is normal. Rabbits are highly territorial. Are your buns (or any of them) spayed/neutered? Are none of the buns bonded?

Statistically, a bond between a (neutered) male and a (spayed) female is the most- likely-to-be-stable-bond.

You are sadly right in that red eyed buns are more difficult to adopt out, and a “cuter” bun has a higher chance of finding a new home.

(I’m assuming you got the two girls to save them from some sort of bleak future. In cases like that we all have to be pragmatic. Its all about trying to ensure the best possible outcome for these three individuals.)
